**HELP**Timing Mark of by 4-Teeth!
Well I was investigating this low rpm whistling most noticeable at idle and low RPMs. Narrowed it down to the Harmonic Balancer...further investigated the cam gears and found my timing marks on the cam gears and belt were off by 4-TEETH! What DO I DO? I know this can't be good on the motor. I'm gonna take it to the dealer tomorrow to get fixed...what am I looking at here? I know it won't be covered under warrantee becuasse I ust installed the cams last wqeekend and all marks were PROPERLY aligned. How does it change? Bad tensioner? Belt too tight? It was done by a guy who has done countless installs. JUST WANT TO GET IT FIXED ASAP. Can a dealer get everythin back on track?
are you sure that it was timed properly after the install? If it was done last week, I can't imagine it skipping teeth on the belt...I would talk to the guy that installed your cams...was it a shop? if he has done a bunch of installs and is a reputable guy I am sure he could get you lined out. Just a thought...
you will have to get your cams retimed...if you cant get it back to him, and cant take it on yourself...you can see if the dealer would do it for you, but I am sure they will charge you out the a$$ to do it. Do you have a shop manual for your car? If so, I think it has directions on how to get everything aligned... I dont know how savvy you are though with wrenching... Anyone else have any suggestions?
i was the one who did the install, and of course everything was timing correctly when it was installed. immediately after doing the install it was dynoed and put down great numbers. somewhere between here and there the belt must have skipped. if the tension has failed, there will be a ton of slack in the belt, and it is very obvious. the belt will be loose enough to pull it off the cam gears.
to get it aligned properly, you need to loosen the belt with the timing belt tensioner tool(obviously the belt is already really loose if you have a bad tensioner), take the belt off the cams, rotate the crank to TDC, and then rotate the cams to TDC, put the belt back on the cam gears, and then take the timing belt tensioner tool out which will re tension the belt.
i called and left a message LIL, give me a call back when your free.

Nor was I...ROOKIE mistake I when off the white marks on the belt. When I checked the white marks on the cam gears and the notches on the valvecover everything lined up perfect...the crank is also TDC. My belt may be a bit too tight causing this whistling/cricket noise...still trying to find out the route of this annoying evil. KevinD did a fantastic job and this was NO WAY pointed at him...but he knows that already.
