Thanks for the post Al...

It is a 20G and in my oppinion it should make 10-15% more power than a stock Evo 9 16G Turbo.

I fully accept that agressiveness of tune, buying experiance and supporting mods will vary from one installation to the next.

But I think the point is that it may very well be a good "bang for buck" turbo

Thanks
Sal

In a nutshell...

03-04 Evo = 9.8 turbine housing and OEM 16G wheel in VIII compressor housing

05 Evo = 10.5 turbine housing and OEM 16G wheel in VIII compressor housing

TME turbo = 10.5 turbine housing w/titanium internals (faster spool) and OEM 16G wheel in VIII compressor housing

White Rabbit = 10.5 turbine housing w/titanium internals and FP 5-blade compressor wheel in VIII compressor housing

20G8 = 10.5 turbine housing w/inconel internals (i.e., stock) and turbochargers.com/Buschur 6-blade 20G wheel in VIII compressor housing (big surging problems)

06 OEM IX turbo = same as 05 turbo with larger compressor housing but same 16G compressor wheel

20G9 v.1 = same as 20G8 except with Evo9 compressor housing (same as current turbochargers.com 20G)

20G9 v.2 = same as v.1 but with white rabbit compressor wheel after Buschur and turbochargers.com parted ways (marketed by Buschur prior to Green)

Green = same as 20G9 v.2 with larger turbine wheel

Very good info EVO8LTW

Actually that makes sense, the thing that really Differentiates the Green is the ability of the hot side to flow more air due to its bigger turbine wheel... Should make it stronger up top than the other 20G's...

thanks

Does the 05 turbo or the TME turbo bolt directly onto an 03/04?

Great work - that really is a great list

20G9 v.2 w/TME internals = 20G9 v. 2 w/TME hot side internals (not widely marketed; special order; aka "WR9")

It wouldn't be possible to have a TME Green since what makes a TME is the titanium hot side internals, which are completely different on a Green.

There are also the magnesium wheel stock turbos marketed overseas. Not too many people here have them due to the cost and alleged reliability problems.

Oh you mean the JDM RS/GT turbo? There is a revised one but I dont remeber the p/n. Its been posted on MLR if you are curious.

So from the two turbos posted above, I am trying to figure out wich would be a better turbo suited to my car. Obviously I am into track days. I am curious if the 20G9 v.2 "WR9" would be the one to go with over a FPgreen. Hmm or maybe FP would make me a FPgreen TME??? I need to call Richard!

Yes.

If you have an 03 and you are cheap you'll want to get the 10.5hotside and ebay O2 housing.

If you have a little more cash and want 15whp more then simply get a complete 9 turbo with ebay O2 housing.

If you want to step up to something very capable with supporting mods and high octane fuel then go with the Green/LT20G.

Best bang for the buck is a stock EVO9 turbo w/ebay O2 housing. You can find them used for $550 complete with outlet pipe and oil lines. When driven at higher boost levels, this will be good for 40whp and tons of torque over the stock 03/04 turbo. If you decide you want more go-baby-go you can have it converted to a Green/LT20G for a grand.

The only catch..... To really outshine the stock 9 turbo, the Green/LT20G needs high octane (alchy/meth/100+) a great tune and many other supporting mods.

Very well said.

I also think the EVO9 stock turbo is the best bang for the buck if you have a 2003 or 2004 stock turbo. I would only spend the money on the Green/20G-LT if you plan on running meth or race gas.

Might as well get a IX turbo if your plan or running pump gas only.

Those numbers are not impressive at all. A lot of cammed evo's do almost that. My buddies 03 Evo with full bolt on's and HKS 280's made 357awhp. That is not saying anything for that turbo. Also IX turbo's can make over 400awhp. I can vouch for that considering I dynoed 415awhp on my stock IX turbo. I would go with a stock IX turbo over that 20G. My opinion but an extra $500 for 5awhp is just not worth it to me.

Word, thats what I was just reiterating a couple posts up. I think the stock IX turbo is good enough. That or Green. $500 for 5whp? No thanks.
