Evo IX 20 G from turbochargers.com on a Stage IV

This turbo inpressed me - I am unsure of which wheel this was but I loved the way the turbo worked on the dyno and on the road

This was with just under 24 psi of peak boost tapering down on 93 octane pump gas

Full Stage IV set up with a custom Dyno Flash - mods listed on the sheet

i thought the 20G was considered "old" or ancient in the evo world. For some reason I thought this turbo created surging like crazy.

Guess not. Thanks for the info.

On this car in question there was no surge what so ever

Again, I am unsure of the specifics - e.g. if it was a 5 blade or a 6 blade compressor wheel, etc

It was a great turbo on the road

Isnt this turbo very cheap - like only $899.00... Its rated good for 450HP at the crank?

"Evo 9 Turbo 20G 10.5 Single Puck Upgrade 450HP"

I always thought it was a good alternative to the Green, but how far short of the green does it fall?

And is the Green worth the extra money?

?

I dont see the big deal here? IX's with stock turbo have done those numbers on pump gas alone as well.

Sal I have no answers

This is all I can say

on moderate pump gas boost levels - 23 -24 psi this turbo makes a significantly greater level of power than a stock evo turbo and appears to suffer no loss in spool up. I would estimate that the car made at least 15 - 20 whp more than t would have made with a stock turbo accross the power band at this bost level.

I have NOT had a chance to test this turbo at a higher boost level - e.g. 30 lbs etc

I have not had any long term experience to see how reliable this turbo is

I can say that I was at www.turbochargers.com and I did not have a good expereince and I would not do any of my own personal business there

I am simply posting the results I obtained tuning

It seems like its a good bang for the $$ for the power level vs the cost

Perhapse some turbo gurus can chime in an educate us all in the differences between this unit and say the Green

I do not tune my customers cars to break or meet dyno records, This is just a representation of what kind of power this turbo and parts combo made with a given level of boost tuned to a conservative a.f and knock free on the dyno. After the tune I go out on the road and re-adjust as needed to make the tune very knock free on the street.

There is no BIG DEAL

I liked the way this turbo "felt" and I feel its making 15 - 20 more whp than similarly modded cars with stock turbos make on this dyno

The car was a 2005 so I draw my comparision on 2005 turbos not IX turbos which make more than 2005 units

true the #'s arent that great , but it looks like it holds boost better .
peak hp @7200rpms , not bad for a stockish trubo . Iam sure when its pushed the peak hp will come in lower

Yeah but youre missing my point. You say you feel this turbo is making 15-20whp more than stock turbo? So you're saying STAGE 4 2005s (thats full bolt on, cams, FMIC) only make 350whp... if you added on a STOCK IX turbo it would probably make the same power as this IX 20G did. Thats what Im saying. If this car had a regular IX stock turbo, it probaby would have made the same power.

So this IX 20G from Turbochargers.com might be good for 15whp over a 2005 turbo... but a stock IX turbo would probably be good for the same power for cheaper.

I do not think a IX turbo would make as much power as this turbo,

However the way we test these things is with A - B - C testing on the dyno

Sadly, I am to busy these days to dream to find time to do this kind of testing anymore

It would be great to take the same car - same day and whip the 3 different turbos on and off but as I said I am just too busy with so many tuning projects already on the books I have no time

I gotcha, I just think if a IX turbo adds 10whp (which from previous tests, including your own) have shown that is probably the better value instead of this Turbochargers.com turbo.
