Exedy Clutch Questions....Need help Please

I have a triple plate cerametallic exedy clutch. Had a NAST noise coming from the clutch when I pressed the clutch in. So I took off the transmission and disassembled the clutch to see what the deal was. and somehow the insides of the clutch discs (the part the input shaft goes through on the transmission) was rounded off. There are supposed to be little grooves in there where it can mate up witht he input shaft but it was completely rounded off to where the discs were just chillin in there lol. The clutch worked fine for around 700 miles then all the sudden did this. Does anyone know what might have caused this???

please help

Thanks

the input shaft looks fine. doesnt look like any metal has been rubbed off really. I ever tried an old clutch disc of mine and fit it on there and it fit snug.

I'd take pictures and get them sent off to your Exedy dealer and to Exedy. The splines on the disc centers may not have been properly heat treated.

I'm starting to second guess if the input shaft on the transmission was damaged a little too. Jon Shepherd said it usually is damaged when this happend and of course he knows what he's talking about. I'm probably going to send him a picture of the input shaft to see if its damaged. there are a few marks where the clutch discs used to be on there. a few scrapes but nothing big

Yeah, sounds like they took it to high when they tempered it or didnt even heat treat it. And a good material for automotive parts is 4130 and it could last 700 miles without a heat treat. PICS, please
