do your hear any type of whistle when you get higher rpms? if so it might be the snorkel that connects to your stock airbox that needs to have the pins in there to hold it in place. give some more descriptions of the problem

maybe you have a boost leak?
so you have a boost gauge? how much is it boosting??

but stock evo 8's are very slow. definately slower than 350z's on the freeway.

Do a full boost leak test, not just the visual check. Also you might want to check the plastic BOV, as I have seen it fail to hold boost.

Make sure the car is breathing right, i.e. the whole intake system is ok including the air filter.

check your plugs(gap)and do a compression test , something could be wrong internal....or a boost leak test...reset your battery sometimes that helpes if the car is knocking or pulling timing....yes it can hold boost and still have a boost leak how many miles?
