How much were you charged for this. This rip off dealer is trying to charge me 1800 although it basically looks like the same thing as a clutch install. AND they said they are putting in the new linkage for free.

What does the cost include? Of course having the dealer do any labor is going to be the most expensive route possible, but it also depends on what it includes. I can tell you that the bits and pieces for the conversion cost me $350. Plus, you have the whole new trans itself plus the full labor cost of doing the swap, which is like a clutch job. A clutch job at Mitsu is 10hrs usually at $100/hr = $1000. How much do you expect it all to cost?

I JUST finished the 6 to 5 speed swap not even an hour ago. My costs were as follows: $3175 for the Shepherd Ultimate Ratio 5-speed, $450 for the necessary parts for the swap (shifter and base, linkages, electrical connections) $150 shipping costs, $320 for lift rental and the use of a technician ($40/hr x 8hrs) and $200 for a new TPS since I broke mine at some point messing around in the engine bay.

I'm in the process of changing from a 6spd to a 5spd. Bought a used 5spd for $1,400. Getting it upgraded by Shepard for $1,300. Conversion Kit $450(from shepard). Havent decided on the clutch assembly yet, waiting on my definite turbo upgrade decision first. Either RPS street disc or Carbonetics twin disc. Plus Labor.

2 questions.

1) Any one have experience with the Carbonetics twin disc, is it too agressive for the street?

2)I will be going with a big turbo down the line, either a GT35r, T67, or TS GT40. I spoke with Shep and he said I need a Stage 3 TCase w/ Quaife. Question is, do it now while everything is apart? (Normally I would just say yes but I'm tight on $$$ for a bit).

Is it a lot of labor to pull the TCase out months after the whole conversion, or should I get it all done at once? Like I said if money weren't an issue, I'd do it right away...

thanks all...

Nick

Whoa. That's some serious lift costs. Did you pay that much just for one day or did it sit for a while? I did my clutch last weekend and broke a motor mount during the process. The the shop only charged me $30/day for my car to sit there while I was waiting on the part.
