Buschur Race Intercooler FMIC on Evo ix 9

I couldn't find anyone with a writeup on this, so i figure i would do it. First off I must say this is a damn nice piece. Installation was not that bad, although while trying to pull my lexus drag car out of the garage the trunk lid slammed me in the head and i had to go to the ER to get 4 staples in my head.

Here are some notes when installing a Buschur RACE FMIC onto an EVO IX
1. Crash bar goes bye-bye
2. Left hand crash bar mount needs removed
3. All mesh has to be removed
4. Left and right side ducts on the front bumper will need some trimming
5. I left the splash shield off, but i think it would fit with some trimming but not totally sure.
6. If you have the Buschur IX LICP for the evo IX it will not fit when you go to the race intercooler. That lower pipe only fits the stocker.

Other than that it's not that bad to install. Front bumper comes off and the rest is all downhill from there. In the pics you will see i am still using the stock LICP until i get my Buschur 3065 kit (should be this coming week). I saw an immediate difference in power level after taking it out on the street, my guestimate would be around 25hp increase. I saw about a 2 psi pressure drop also.

Stock intercooler in place ready to be removed

In this pic you will see the Buschur IX LICP - would not work as it curves up to mate to the stock style endtanks.

Buschur Race FMIC installed

Notice the stock LICP here. I had to bend the brackets on it to get it to fit

Trimming on passenger side (needs filed and cleaned up i know) notice the stock LICP for now =(

Trimming on drivers side

Finished product, my car needs washed, i know

I see you took off the black wiring that goes in front of the intercooler. I was thinking of doing that also. Makes it alot easier when trying to clean it. Looks Good!

There would be no way that I would cut my front bumper to install a FMIC especially that your turbo will be a 3065.

the bumper cutting is not that bad, and completely unnoticeable unless you are 2 feet away from it. I'm pretty happy with the setup as I plan to go larger than the 3065 eventually when i build the bottom end (having bad thoughts about a gt37).

if anyone has gotten this to fit a IX bumper without cutting i'd like to see pics how they did it

I have the same fmic on my IX. I did not have to cut my front bumper cover at all nor did I have to remove the mesh. I even kept my front crash bar with some slight trimming.

Either or I love my BR fmic. It's amazing to feel the tempature difference between the inlet and outlet.

WOW you cut the bumper ... my guess as to why it wouldnt firt is cause of the pipes you are using???

Crash bar doesnt need to go by by... mine didnt, I just gave her a hair cut

I agree Jason.

But im jealous of the buy. I wish I had $760 + $275 for piping + shipping for an IC

Good luck with it though.

I'm surprised you had to trim the bumper to make BR Race fmic fit.....

I guess this is why I prefer the 8 front end over the 9's....

anyway....I had problems at first making the mesh fit over the FMIC....but I took a closer look at it, bent/trimmed a few tabs and made it work....

If you look at vwjeffs pics you'll notice that his fmic does not have the mounting tabs on the side like the one posted in this thread. Mine is exactly like vwjeffs. I have a feeling those tabs push the fmic out farther. But who knows.
