Check Engine Light Came on...?

Hey,

New here, but i was wondering if anyone had any suggestion on what to do.

So my brother-in-law and I put in a new clutch (exedy ceramic) and flywheel, changed the oil, and filter, replaced tranny/transfer case fluids. Everything went fine, clutch works great, but about 50 miles in to the trip home (he lives far away) my Check engine light came on. It doesnt flash, i just turn on the car and it comes on and stays on. Everything seems fine, i have same amount of water/coolant/oil. Nothing is leaking. There is a bit more oil than there should be. about half a quart too much. According to the manual, it takes 5.5q TOTAL, i put 6 quarts in.

Im not on factory warranty anymore and dealer and local places charge 100 bucks to diagnose, which i will pay if i have to of course. But if i can avoid it, id like that better

Anyone have any ideas, suggestions.

a buddy told me to take disconnect battery for awhile, and that should turn off the light, and if it comes on again, take it to dealer...

Im a total noob, so any advice is helpful.

Also im in seattle area, so if anyone could recommend a good place that would be helpful, thanks!

1st off wrong section...

2nd Go buy a scantool. They are less than $100 and your check engine light will continue to come on if you continue to mod.

3rd Disconnecting your batt. only clears the light, not the code. And if it is something seriously wrong, you want to fix it not just shut the light off.

I would recommend buying a simple OBD2 scanner. They can be had for around 50 bucks now and will pay for itself after the first use.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I went to autozone and turns out it was the P0300 misfire code. I did a few searches and it seems like a ton of people have had this code come up. I heard advice such as replace plugs and wires. However even more posts talk about lighter flywheels throwing the code too, and that would make sense because i just replaced the flywheel with a lighter one as well...
