Finishing up install on AMS 35R and I need help

I am almost done with the install of the kit but I don't know how to connect the EBC to the new turbo kit and AMS is closed for the week. The new kit has two connections on the wastegate and I assume that the hose that went from the stock actuator should go to one of those but I don't know which one. The other hose that goes to a pressure source I have no idea where to put it. The new kit doesn't have a connection anywhere. If someone who has done this before or knows about it could let me know I would appreciate it. Thanks

If you are talking about connections to an external wastegate, it matters if you are running an EBC that can be set to external mode or you are running an MBC.

For the external wastegate, pressure applied to the side port opens the wastegate, and pressure applied to the top port closes the wastegate.

So, if you are running an MBC, just use the side port and leave the top open.

If you are running an EBC that can be set to an 'external' mode, then you just use a constant pressure source to the side port (like your turbo compressor cover or the LICP) and then connect the EBC to the top port.

I am using the Greedy profec B spec II. It can be set up for an external wastegate. Also I don't know if this matters but right now I have the stock ecu. With the ams turbo kits do you have to drill a hole in the LICP to put a connection for the pressue hose of the ebc? I cannot believe that it would not come with it already.

I just need to know...

1. If I need to drill a hole somewhere and weld a connection for the hose from the EBC that is for pressure. If so where have others welded it.

2. The hose that went from to the actuator should go where now? To the connection on the top of the wastegate or the one on the bottom?

If you AMS kit didn't come with a nipple for a pressure source, then you will have to tap or weld one yourself. Sometimes the turbo compressor covers have a nipple on them, sometimes the lower IC pipe has a nipple on it. I don't know what comes in the AMS kit.

With your Greddy EBC, you can run it either in internal mode or external mode with your external wastegate. A lot of people will run internal mode and just hook the one pressure source to the EBC and then to the side of the wastegate. This way it acts more like an internal wastegate and MBC.

The proper way with your external is to use a constant pressure source straight from the compressor cover or IC pipe to the side of the wastegate. Then, another pressure hose goes to the EBC solenoid, then to to top wastegate port. The EBC must be configured in 'external' mode for this to work. You can tee into the same pressure line or use a separate one.

You can get the pressure source for the Profec solinoid from the intake manifold, or remove the 1/8" NPT plug from the compressor housing and replace it with with a barb fitting.

The pressure source will go to "com" on the solinoid.

You can run one hose from what I believe is the "NC" fitting (the one thats 90 degrees from the com port) to the fitting on the side of the wastegate. This is works fine for lower boost levels and is the way intended for internal swinggate setup. This works by allowing no air to either side of the wastegate diaphram until desired boost is reached, then putting pressure under the diaphram pushing the valve open.

The proper way for external is to install a vacuum "t" in the boost source line, running one side to the side of the wastegate and the other side to the "com" port on the solinoid. Then run a line from the "NO" port (directly across from COM) to the top of the wastegate. This applies pressure to both sides of the diaphram until desired boost is reached, then removes pressure from the top of the diaphram, forcing it open.

If you need visual instructions, they can be found from GReddy's website via this link:

Hope this helps,

Thanks a lot Eric, you explained it perfectly. I saw that 1/8" plug on the side after I asked this question so I went to an auto parts store and bought the fitting but I was still unclear about the wastegate. Thanks
