Can someone explain the benefits of clipping a turbo?

I am getting contradictory information on this. I have a 50 trim journal bearing turbo and I wanted to see if there were any benefits to clipping the wheel prior to intall. Someone in the turbo business said it will spool up faster becasue of the weight taken out. This does not sound right to me, but I am not turbo expert. Any help would be appreiciated

which side are you clipping (hot or cold)? If you clip the cold side, it will have less inertia and spool faster - but it may also loose efficiency at lower rpm. So faster "spool" may not equal faster "pressure" build up.
