Need Tranny help!
Ok, so Im going to the dealership on friday for some work! They are a really good dealership and will cover most things on warranty! So heres the problem...Im driving today after school and my car starts acting wierd! I start to pull away from a stop light with about 2000 rpms and slowly pushing down the gas and as im almost off the clutch, it suddenly drops to around 800-1000 rpms and almost stalls before it starts going! Also lately, as I get on the car a little bit in first gear, when I push in the clutch and go to pull it into 2nd the rpms revv up about another 500 or so before they start back down! Also, going into 5th gear, it grinds like crazy unless I hold the clutch in for a couple seconds before putting it into gear! THis is really annoying, especially when racing and you go to shove it into 5th and hear a nice loud grind and everyone looks at you like a dumbass who cant drive!
I appreciate any help! Im really hoping that its just the clutch needs adjusting, or synchros because Mitsubishi will do that stuff under warranty still and I dont really want to spend the money on a clutch right now!
Just for info, I bought the car a few weeks ago with 42,000 miles on it but the guy who previously had it never got on it hard at all! He has a Porsche 911 that is his fun car! He used the EVO as a DD Family Car! So now it has 45,000 and still under warranty!
Incase I need a new clutch, I would like your input on the best clutch for the money! My goal is around 400 awhp and to track it occasionaly! I am kind of looking at the ACT HDSS with a street light flywheel since that is what they recommend for drag racing! Is that a good clutch? And whats the best place and price for that clutch?
Thank You for all your help!

so you're racing at speeds that require 5th gear on the street? I assume you're on the street and with passengers in your car that are looking at you like you're a dumbass, because most tracks don't allow passengers in the car that look at you like you're a dumbass while shifting into 5th. Now if you're looking out the window while shifting into 5th, to see people in another car looking at you like you're a dumbass grinding gears, that might explain why you're missing the shift. Keep your eyes front and center, concentrate and see if the problem goes away. If that doesn't work, start with the nut behind the wheel and go from there.

Its not that im looking at people or any of that, I can be entering the highway at 60-70 mph and have some rpms in 4th gear in order to get into the traffic and as I put it into 5th I feel that resistance going in that you just know is gringing! I dont race on the street as I did that with my old car, ot near as fast as my evo, and it got me too close to too much trouble! Ive learned alot as Ive grown up a bit! I know people are laughing bc I used to laugh at people leaveing high school as they would grind every gear going down the road! I would never watch for people to laugh at me, my dad has ridden with me and going down the road if I get on it in 4th geat and get the rpms above 4500 and shift it into 5th it will grind loud enough to hear!
The grind in 5th gear is due to the synchro going bad. As far as the major drop in RPMs it sounds to me like the clutch is getting ready to go. Be easy on it going into 5th gear and let a shop check it out for a clutch. I know its difficult ruin the synchros so the guy who sold you the car is probably lying!

its cool, it is an insanely fast car and alot of people dont take respect for the power of these machines! As ive grown up I have started to understand that its not that Im risking my own life by racing on open roads, I can control what im doing! Its the fact of god knows what the other people on the road are going to do and you never know when an innocent bystandard could be injured or killed by being a dumbass! My life are in my own hands, I feel I should inly risk it on the track where its only me in jeapordy! No need to bring people who dont want to be into the mix of a dumb decision!
