Triple carbon clutch woes

Hi guys,

Been reading threads about both the ATS and Exedy triple carbon clutches and although both seem to be good, which will be a better choice? THe car is seldom street driven and will make around 700 WHP when its done. Have heard that the Exedy wears out quick.

WHat would be a better choice in terms of reliability for races?

Trust me it does!

Exedy has taken a position that the triple carbon clutches are TRACK ONLY now and a little over a year ago they said it was the best strip/street clutch!!

AMS came through for me and got Exedy to give us and even exchange for the badly slipping triple carbon for a new triple ceramic HD.

The triple carbon only had 2500 mile on it and just 3 trips to the dragstrip.

Don't get it if you plan on doing any street driving.

Got 700whp here so beleive me on this one.

I was lucky AMS had my back as usual

The two that comes to my mind are the RPS tripple and the Carnonetic/ATS.

I have the Exedy Tripple Ceramic HD with just over 600whp.

The clutch performs excellent and my car is Daily Driven.

If you are planning on making that much power your best bet will be the tilton twin carbon it is the only true carbon to carbon clutch and it is the best clutch out there that will hold whatever you throw at it and has good drivability.

This is the clutch that all the big dogs use.

The exedy triple carbon sucks! on pumpgas with my PT67H (37R) it slips even when heated up!

. . . and slippage is apparently the quickest way to wear out an expensive carbon clutch.

I have run an Exedy Triple Carbon clutch for about 19,000 miles and over two years. It has two trips to the drag races on it and one road race day where it held up to Paul Gerrard driving it to win second place at a Redline Time Attack event. The other 18,980 are daily driven miles. No problems to report whatsoever.

It doesn't slip for me at all. I once thought it was slipping on the dyno, only to find that it was another issue. It is stiff as hell and rattles like crazy on decel, but that is normal for this clutch. I should add that it is incredibly easy to modulate. Easy to drive from light to light, but in freeway traffic jams, my leg gets tired after a while.

I hope it continues that way for awhile. I'd be curious to pop it open and check the wear, to get an idea of how much longer it will go before needing a rebuild. And where that is concerned, what is the cost of a rebuild for one of these anyway?

Yikes!

And that's primarily why I won't be buying one of these or the other carbon clutches.

I WAS going to get the triple carbon but after searching around and talking to people I went with the triple metallic.... From what I hear the life is much longer and since I just came from the twin hd cerametallic its not going to be much different, very very stock like to drive with a little heavier clutch pedal.

Same here... would love to go carbon cuz I think it might mean easier to slip when launching... but my friends evo 9's with the ATS carbon rattle like crazy and my car is so noisy already....

Plus the few stories I read on here about the Exedy carbon mean I don't want to risk that happening to me.

And finally the Tilton just seems to be a very hard clutch to drive daily... and I've had that very grabby type of engagement with a 3 paddle exedy single plate and it is a pain in the ***....

The Exedy Twin has been good for me... so Exedy Triple it is....
