What I have seen 3x so far is the oil pump failing for some reason with the stubby shaft. Not on my own car BTW. Perhaps the lack of proper support? I am not really sure, but the turned down shaft seems like a better solution. Why do the stubby shaft thing when you can just bring the shaft to a machine shop and have it put on a lathe for about $40? I was a little worried about taking out the shafts, but now that the car is running, I am very happy that I did. 9K shifting here I come

If they don't have a lathe, they're not a machine shop. Even if they do have a lathe, they may not be a machine shop. I'm looking in my garage..... Yep, there's a lathe. Nope, I'm not a machine shop.

Did you notice whether there was an oil passage drilled through it when you cut it off?

Do you mean an enlarged passage, or the presence of one in general? I wasn't aware of the existing passages in the shafts being eliminated by having it lathed.

mine started to round off so i just stopped messing with it. I had a spare front cover so im not worried. I dont see why you could use a bolt insteat of a screw they'll be doing the same thing...

i just found out that there are 2 types of stub shafts that come in the kits one has an oil groove like the stock shaft and the other doesnt... its recommend not to use the one without and that is what cause oil pump failures
