Evo 8 Head and ECU swap with Evo 9

I was just curious if anyone has looked into swapping the head on the Evo 8 with a MIVEC Head and ECU from a Evo 9 ? And if there is much more to it than that and if its just to much work in the end ?

I've done this a few times for customers. The job is much easier using an EMS but, can be done using the OEM IX ECU in your VIII, however, it is not easy.

With the EMS you don't have to worry about making stuff happy like you do if you use the IX ECU. Its a little easier but, not that much easier. There really is only a few sensors you need to add but, they are some powerful sensors that need to be done correctly or the motor and ECU will not be happy.

Look up on www.ne-evos.net and review the IX manual section about MIVEC and you'll get a pretty good understanding of what needs to be done.

It's been done a few times by vendors in my area.

you need a high presure oil feed for the mvec control, EVO IX engine wiring harness and ECU then it's mostly a bolt on affair.

Bingo or go the EMS route depending on your level of mods. The few that I have used the EMS for were stroked engines with large turbos that I was installing the EMS on anyway and would've had a hard time running on the OEM ECU.

It really comes down to your current level of mods and your ultimate goal.

Well i am planning on getting AEM EMS once i get it thats another question of where to go and have it tuned seeing i live really no where near a speed shop/ tuner. Ive looked into a few places around the Mass. and Conn. area seeing i live in RI. But i so far have been working on the bolt ons which would be::
-DYNOFLASH Re-Flashed Computer
-HKS Hi Power Turbo Back Exhaust
-HKS 272 Intake Cams
-HKS Short Ram Intake
-HKS 1000cc Injectors
-HKS Hi Flow Fuel Rail
-HKS EVC Controller
-HKS Boost Gauge
-AeroMotive Fuel Pressure Regualtor
-S.S. Fuel Lines
-Kansai Velocity Stack Intake Manifold
-BBK 75mm Throttle Body
-4" FMIC
-Weapon R Lower IC Piping
-Weapon R/Greddy Upper IC Piping
-Weapon R Catch Can
-ACT HD Clutch Kit
-ACT Street-lite Flywheel
Hopefully soon i want to get a nice turbo upgrade and still deciding on that one seeing theres so many choices but my main ones are either a GT3076R Setup probably from slowboy or a APEXI IHI RX6R. The car will be run on pump gas and only from sunoco or shell dont trust anyone else's gas but anyway that and it will probably only be seeing the track for a while until its road legal again.

I have customers from farther north than you and even as far south as Florida and can handle this and any install you'd like. I'll pm you some more info.

Thanks that would be very much appreciated. I definitely have been looking for a good tuner that has his name out but its been hard so it would be a big help.

So isnt a wiring harness for a Evo one of the most expensive components to the motor ? That and doesnt it run along the car everywhere ?

Yes, because ive had Both right infrom of me and tried it, it wont work. not only do you need to fix the oil line for the mivec head, if you put the gaskets up next to each other they wont match up. There might be some way to fix that issue but id rather not have any problems with oil/ coolant as possible. So i just droped the whole longblock in with no problem i have the 03 tranny and xfer case and it runs fine.
