HELP! Stroker with a Lifter tap
Hello every one.
I just recently got my car back after it spun a bearing the day I got it.
We went wit ha 2.3L StageII Stoker from Jackson Auto Machine.
But left the head stock. The head was disassembled, cleaned then resurfaced.
I always notice the slight tapping noise but figured it would of went away when we changed the oil after the 500mile break in. But that is not the case. Is is still tapping. It isn't very loud but noticeable when outside the car. It seems to go away when you hold the RPM's a little higher but then again the engine is louder so its hard to really tell.
JAM calls for 20w50 oil. Which is what we are using. Redline Oil BTW.
I spoke to CHAD at CBRD about the oil and he also said 20w50.
The lifters were not replaced but I am thinking they will need to.
I do not have a Oil Pressure gauge.. Just a heads up.
Any suggestions?

Try running a qrt of trans fluid in with the oil...its a high detergent and will "clean" the lifter if its got varnish- on it, in it -thats causing it to stick.. Just a thought, a little old school fix if thats the problem...Put it in and let it run for 20min or so idling...and see if it doesn't disappear..M
sometimes is really diffucult to clean all of the metal out of the lifters especially with a spun bearing...trust me I know this. JAM is an awesome shop, and I agree with the other poster above, go with thier lifters if you have not done so already. My tapping went away when I switched to them.
Good Luck

Just wanted to see what other ppl thought.

they could have been damaged if the car originally had cams installed without bleeding them
also, run royal purple, amsoil, etc..
stay away from redline.. i say this based on my experience in the race cars.

So i been searching on the forum.
And found a TON of threads about lifter tap. And it appears most of the people who have this problem, have Cam's. Which i don't.
I spoke to a buddy of mine, and he said 4G63, Its common. But it just annoys me.
I hate that tapping noise.
Should i just go with the JAM Lifters?
Its like 170 bucks, and Carmela said she would over night it to me.
Or is there an other way of fixing this?

I've had lifter tick for almost 20,000 miles on my stroker rebuild. Obviously, my rebuild is fine. It is annoying as hell though. We changed out lifters to no avail 15,000 miles ago...
Stethoscope
Anyone posted have an engine stethoscope? As long as all parts were installed correctly; this sound is coming from your injectors, unless lifter tick is amplified through them, highly doubtful. My stockish '05 has this tick, hope my injectors are not at 100%, no scans recently, peace.

Its definitly not a injector ticking.
Its in the head. I think ill just let it rock until i install cam's.
At that point ill go with the JAM upgraded lifters.
But i will take Chad's advice and change out the Redline Oil, for some Amsoil.
