2nd gear prob's!!!

Hey guys, I just had my motor out, put in new cams, springs, retainers, blah blah blah. Anyway, I put it all back together, and everything was great, except I had difficulty going in to 2nd from time to time. Well today I was driving, and now I'm completely locked out of 2nd!!! No grinding of any kind, it just wont go in! I'm perplexed! It will manage it's way in about 1/50 times, again with no grinding. before I took out the motor, I had no problems what so ever with 2nd gear.

Anyone have any suggestions? I really don't want to rebuild the tranny, but I don't know what else to do, hense why I'm posting.

Also, I double checked the linkages, and they are connected properly.

Thanks in advance guys!!

John

did that, multiple times. Everything there is fine. Can the fluid play a part? I'm running Royal Purple 75w90, not sure if it's gl-4 though, I'll have to check.

thanks for the responce

its hard to say but i think its time to send it to shepherd, sounds like the fluid caused 2nd gear synchro to go out

Would I not see signs of this with grinding of the gear though?

when pulling out the motor you never touched the tranny?(like pulling it apart) only was i could see this happening is the linkage is messed up or inside the tranny the blocker ring isnt lining up and your just bumping into it(hence not going into gear)

Tranny was left alone. I'm thinking it's internal, but it's just odd that it started now.

disconnect the cables going to the trans and see if you can manually manipulate the arms to get it into second gear. If it goes in fine then you know its in the box/cables/attatchment plate. If not, its internal.

is it all the time or only under WOT?
i ask because you said you put cams in, your making more power, could be over powering the bushings maybe, when i upgraded mine, my 2nd gear probs went away...
what kind of clutch are you running?

This is all the time. sitting at a stoplight, WOT, doesn't matter. Once in a while it will go in, but it's rare. I tryed manually moving the levers, but with the cables still connected, and I couldn't get it in. I'll try with them disconnected in the morning, but wouldn't I have a problem getting it into 4th as well if it was something with the shifter cables. It has to extend just as far to reach 4th gear, but getting into 4th is just fine?

John

EDIT: clutch is a 6 puck Exedy, and haven't had problems til now. put 7-8000miles on the clutch

Well, I just checked the tranny, and it is internal. Anyone have experience with this happening with their car?? I'll take the tranny apart in a week, just wondering what I should be looking for? I'll most likely send it out to be fixed, but I would like to see what's wrong with my own eyes first. Thanks

Try something simple like adjusting your clutch pedal a little higher.

try adjusting the clutch pedal... then maybe try using a different fluid something thinner too see if that works.
