Cost of Methanol rising fast

I just got a letter from my meth distributor the cost is going up to 4.30/gallon. I was paying 2.50. Time to change over to E85 or hang with the big dogs with C16.

I've found it cheaper to run a 50/50 mix of 110 leaded turbo blue and 93 pump. Mixing the two makes a two gallon mix of 100+ octane for $4/gallon.

I know you can get 110 in your area for $5.25 a gallon at the pump. I have to drive about 20 miles so I purchased four 5 gallon jugs that I fill up and store in my garage.

For only $1 more per gallon I like having the security of race fuel 24/7/365. For me it was cheaper than paying $10/gallon for denatured alcohol.

However....If you put on alot of highway miles this probably doesn't make sense.

(BTW let me know if you turn up another high speed event this season.)

Hey Jeff. I had planned to switch over to E85 at the beginning of this year but decided to hold off in hopes of more people running it with good results. I have yet to hear anything bad so I will probably switch over next year. The Evo is pretty much parked for the winter now so no more track days til '08.

I still think Meth is going to be cheaper in the long run. I can probably go through 5 tanks of gas before changing my 7qt meth tank. I'm just not using the meth nowhere near as just driving around..

I wonder how long a tank of E85 will last during a lapping day. I drink about a half a tank of pump in 30 minutes. I bet you'll be needing to top off every session. Better hope they have E85 close by or bring it with you.

it would be about 30-35% more E85 then pump. if you turn the boost up more it will be even faster :P

if your using a 1/2 tank per session, expect to be close to 2/3 to 3/4 of a tank on E85

^^ I drive my car to most events. I would hate to have to carry 20+ gallons of E85 in the trunk of my car!!!

I talked to the supplier near me. He set it is normal for prices to go up during the winter. It is because gas manufactures mix more methanol with their gas for the winter mix. He said it will go back down when summer comes around again.
