Possible Major Problem Insight Welcome
ok so ijust got the act hdss installed in my evo by MITSU. that may have been my1st mistake. so i have been driving it for 3 days now with no problems and i have been driving sloww, even tho, mitsu here in CT told me the clutch needs no break in period. anyways i was in traffic and going up a hill so i had to keep pushing in and letting out the clutch, but eventually everytime i would start to let out the clutch to go into first, it would make this grinding/bolts rattling noise comning from the clutch area. even after this and before it drove nice and smooth with no problems, the only problem has been in traffic. i called mitsu and they said it could be a loose bolt on the flywheel, or a bad disk or pressure plate. i think its bad installation, what do you guys think? has this ever happened to anyone just once and then it never happend again? im afriad that if i go to mitso to try and duplicate the noise i wont be able to because the only time it happend was in traffic going up a hill. thanks in advance. sorry its so long
they didnt mention looking at it, they just said that if it happens again bring it in and they will drive in it with me. i hope they look at, they havent once metioned a voided warranty which surpised me , but i really hope if something breaks they will fix it becausethey installed it. could this have anything to do at all with adjusting the clutch pedal it self? i don tknow if its normal but this clutch catches soooooo low, i would say no more than 4 inches off the floor. help!!! lol
I would take back for them to repair or fix. Even if it's a loose bolt or something, it may have damaged the clutch, plate or flywheel. Also, keep all the paperwork from the dealer in case you need it for a lawsuit. But let's hope it doesn't go that far.
ya i am going to call again on monday and talk to the lady i dealt with the whole time. today some douchee picked up the phone who didnt seem to know much. he said it could have been old clutch matter causing the noise lol. maybe if i adjust it it wont happen. its weird though because it only happened when i was on a hill in stop and go traffic

Thanks for the purchase. First off, we do have a break in period on all of our clutches as do all clutches. It is usually included in the clutch kit on a yellow pamphlet.
What we typically recommend is 300 miles of mild street driving which can be best described as normal stop and go driving. Doing so allows the the clutch to be slipped lightly and laps the sufaces of the disc, flywheel and pressure plate surfaces. This is much in the same way new pads and rotors are "seasoned". For the record getting in your car and driving 300 miles on the freeway in 5th gear will not break the clutch in
. The main thing to remember is that the clutch should not be over heated or slipped agressively during this time. I'm not quite clear on what your problem is or why it's happening. It sounds like it might be just a bit of chatter from the disc that might have been caused by not giving enough throttle input when the car was on the incline. If the flywheel was loose was loose the problem should have manifested itself again. In addition to which that is a very serious issue that should be looked at immediately. If the disc, or pressure was bad, the problem would be consistent. This just might be a case of you needing to get used to the fact that the clutch may be a bit grabbier than ther OE clutch.
I would take the car back to the dealer and have them take it for a test ride to see if the noise can be replicated. I'll be leaving today for SEMA as is the rest of the sales/tech staff so I'll try to check in here later today or tomorrow to see if you have any updates on this.

oh thanks you act for writing all of that. it does seem strange to me too, i cant duplicate it though i dont know why. i tried, maybe if i go on a hill again like i was when i t happend, and go a little and stop and reapeat 5 or so times, thats exactly when i t happened last time. and then did it 3 times in a row consistentely and hasnt done it since. i have been breaking it in anyways becuase i know mitsu doesnt know a thing, and clutches are an item thta wears and needs to be broken in properly. by the sound the clutch made when i was starting to let it out, i know it wasnt me getting used to it in that instance ( it did take me a couple days to get used to it) it made a noise like a garbage disposal until the clutch was fully let out. it is going to mitsu tomorrow morning so i will keep you informed, thanks for your concern

just got back from the dealer and they couldnt replicate it. shocking. they chaulked it up to me not giving it enough gas when starting, and that i wasnt used to the clutch and heated it up too much in traffic. which i guess could be the case, so for now i guess its on me.
