How to check if LSD is installed

Is there a way to diagnose the front diff in an 03 evo to see if it's a stock open diff, mitsu 04-06 diff or a quaife.

I'm mostly interested in quaife specific information... Thanks for your help

Im gonna get bashed for this.

Go to an empty "racetrack" and stop completely. Tach it up pretty high in 1st and keep the wheel turned sharply. When you being to spin, if the car begins to make eccentric circles and you feel the steering wheel forcing back to neutral, you have an LSD. If it tightens up (the donut circle) and it pivots on a perfect axis, you have an open diff.

Im kidding. Take it apart or check the history of the car?

Did you buy it used?

If it is an untouched evo 3, you have an open diff.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to take it apart.

Is there anything you can do with jacking up the car and rotating the wheels? Launching on a road thats wet on one side?

Have someone who had and open diff on their 03-04 and changed to a LSD diff drive your car. They will be able to tell you in less than a mile or two of driving your car if it has an open diff or a LSD as they drive like 2 completely different cars with LSD and Without....

turboDan, The problem with just driving it is that the car has is modified and the suspension alone makes it feel like a completely different car.

Do you know exactly what you'd look for when driving it?

Modified Suspension doesn't mean Jack. You can tell when you try to give it some throttle on some tight turns.

can you elaborate? the front will plow with an open diff?

The rear has the whiteline bump steer kit, so on some tight turns the rear will loose traction and rotate way before the front with or without a diff.

The INSIDE front tire(right front if taking hard right)will spin wildly, almost like you went through some water with it prior to driving=open front diff.
Same situation with LSD and it will PULL you hard through turn(very little if any front wheel spin),almost to the point
of you thinking that you have slicks on the front. It is a Night/Day difference.
