Another ACT clutch problem.

I just installed my second ACT HDSS since I never had a problem with the first one. My problem is that the clutch would not disengage when the pedal was on the floor so it would not go into gear. I adjusted the pedal height and the clutch would not disengage unless I have the pedal adjusted as high as it would go, it has no free play and it engages as soon as the pedal comes off the floor. It's still driveable but not by much. Why would this clutch have this problem and my last one never give me any trouble. The brake/clutch fluid is full and there are no leaks. Should I try bleeding the slave cylinder?

Try bleeding it, if that doesnt work there might be an issue with the rod/fulcrum for the clutch. Maybe the rod is too short, making the slave cylinder move in a longer travel.

I'll go bleed it right now, if that doesn't work, I probably get the longer rod that lancershop sells.

okevolutionVIII, did you install it yourself? I installed mine and the same thing happened. We found that we did not properly engage the clutch disc/pressure plate. There is a lever that you have to pull forward on the tranny and then you have to put a screw driver in the little transmission hole and pull the clutch back. It is a pretty critical step and kinda tricky to do without a lift. We got it the second time around and it worked like a charm after that.

The clutch is not causing your problem.

Is this similar to what you do to release the TOB from the pressure plate? Explain some more please.

Hmm, I should have my old slave cylinder laying around somewhere, my new transaxle came with a new one.

Yes, thats it. We thought we had it released, but apparently we didn't and the same sort of thing happened. I had to push the clutch pedal all the way to the floor and apply alot of force to get the car in gear. We fiddled with the TOB and pressure plate a little more and got it to snap in. It worked great after that...I was really frustrated though thinking there was something wrong with my clutch. Sorry, its been awhile since I did that install with my friend and its a time in my life I'd like to forget ever happened...that clutch was pure hell.

+2 ^^^^^^

We always give a good tug in the fork to make sure the fork re-engages the tob.

Hope that makes sense..........also i had a problem w/ air in the system and had to re-bleed it a few times but still couldn't get all small bubbles out.

I ended up removing the little spring and restrictor in the slave and that allowed me to properly bleed the system........before that the pedal feel never felt quite right

Thats the thing, I had a HDSS in before and put well over 25,000 miles on it and never had a problem.

Did the clutch disc start to wear down and the clutch engagements were less grabby and more smooth?
