Going for the EVO Green

ok, guys, been on this forum long enough to take your advice, I'm gonna give this turbo a crack, before I go the full hog, see what it can do ...

Problem is, I have a EVO 6, and I dont know which options I should go for.

I asked AMS, they had no idea ..!!! - put me onto another mob, now if you don't know anything about your products, how can you sell them ...

and Buschur, don't seem to respond to e-mails ... don;t know what the GO is there..

Anyway the following options are available ... direct from FP.

http://store.forcedperformance.net/m...e=Lancer-Turbo

1. Turbine Housing Nozzle - 10.5, 9.8 or 9.0 - which do I go for ... ??
2. Wastegate Actuator - ok that one is easy, I'll go for the 18PSI version ...
3. Porting - Standard unported or Ported ... ?? what do I select here? I am using TOMEI SS Headers, so do I go the ported option ???
4. Turbo Housing Coating - Uncoated or Ceramic Coating ?? - does the Caoting really make a difference ??
5. FP Evo 8 install Kit. Do I need this for a EVO6 ?? or will this puppy go straight on ???

Help me out guys, I want to order this baby ASAP, get it on and get it tuned ...

Cheers...

RIPwrx,

I must ask, on what car is this going to be install? I read the entire literature and it is self explanatory, it depends on how much boost you are going to be running it would determine what Turbine wheel you get to choose.

What is your boost PSI goal? Are you going to add methanol later on or run on race gas? the options are simple:
Porting gives you better flow. Coating retains heat and gives gas flow velocity and keeps the heat within the hot side part of the turbo. 10.5 hotside will give you the best top end but slower spool up.

You must know what you are aiming for as far is boost, driveability, etc.

Carlos

Hi,

Ok, Boost will be between 22 - 28 PSI, do a few runs, see what this turbo can handle etc...

I am currently running a EVO9 RS Turbo, spools up nice and fast ... so would like to keep that, but I max out at 235 Kw ...

Does the porting effect what header you have ?? if that does not matter, I will go ahead with it, better flow is always good YES ??

No Meth !!

If the Cermaic Coating works, I will go for that aswell ...

Do you know if I require the EVO8 install kit for a EVO 6 ???

Since the Green most closely resembles an Evo9 turbo, and you're running an Evo9 turbo, you should be good on the install (no you don't need the Evo8 install kit, which adapts the Green for the 8's different oiling positions).

The porting really can't hurt, but is it worth the cost- probably. Just pony up and don't worry about it.

The difference between the housings is that with the smaller one you get a little better response at the cost of ultimate power. Likewise, the larger housing gives you a little better power at the top, but with the tradeoff of being a little less responsive.

Coatings rock! If it were me, I'd have them send the hot side to Swain instead, but the less heat escaping through the body of the TC the better.

Port the hot side! Clean up the entire area from the machine work (from fitting the larger turbine) to where the O2 housing fits. Everything you can do pays dividends in the results you have. Below is pictures of the hotside of OKIX's Green.

I don't know if they will shop out the coating to Swain or not.

Can't hurt to ask.

9sec9: Your housing pics look cool. My Green's exducer passage looks more or less the same as that but not as nicely polished. Maybe I took a tad more material out near the WG chamber and reduced that rolled over bulge a bit more. But, basically the same idea. This gets rid of three PSI of backpressure in the 10.5 version of the LT housing. The only thing is that to get it looking that way took me about 30 hours of total grinding time.

EDIT: Well, upon reflection, it took me that long because I also deep ported the turbine inlet and reworked the turnin radius of the wastegate bypass port and also enlarged the bifurcated bypass passage itself by reducing the dividing wall thickness with a long shank carbide bit. (Now, if I could only get you to tune my car!).

RIPWRX they didn't know because we've never had an Evo VI here. As always they will not speculate when they don't know the answer for certain.

Being that an EVO VI TME turbo bolts right onto an Evo VIII., you should just need EVO IX water lines, oil feed line, and compressor discharge pipe (AKA Evo VIII install kit) to put the FP Green onto your VI.

I would definatly choose the 10.5 housing with porting.

The coating is totally up to you. It does reduce engine bay temps some and looks good. Performance wise, it will not much difference to speak of if any at all.

Good luck sir!

Just noticed, if you already have a IX turbo on your car, you may not need the install kit.

When you installed the current turbo, were the water/oil lines, and compressor outlet pipe different from your old turbo?

Inside mics are your friend when doing this kind of work. The inside radius is dimensionally within 3-5 thousandths.
