Question How do you know the ECU was reflashed?

Just bought this EVO, 04 used. I had a RS before that I modded. Now this car is still stock, I think. It has a air intake, and that's it, no other bolt-ons. Stock exhaust still on it. But if memory serves me correctly, this car is far powerfuller than the RS was stock. I'm just wondering if the ECU was re-flashed or something. Is there anyway to tell?

Thanks.

I agree with Dapper Dan. If you have a tactrix cable you can download the ROM and compare it to a stock ROM to see if the numbers are different.

No I don't have a tactric cable, what is it. You'll have to forgive me, I've been out of the loop for about 11/2 yrs. Get me up to speed. Please. Will I need a laptop?

I agree with DeeezNuuuts83 and I have had two 03 Evos and neither one has the stationary limiter. If you have been in 03-04 and it had the limiter then odds are it has been flashed thus producing what you would see in the 05-06.

I'm confused, here--if it's a '05 or more recent, and you can rev above 5k sitting still; or if it's an 03-04 and you can't rev above 5k sitting still, then it's reflashed?

i bought my 03 new and so did my roomate and both of our cars have 5000 RPM stationary rev limiters and so does all of my friends with 03 and 04s....and they wernt flashed..i have all of the stock roms saved on my laptops before i tuned them.

ive only ran into one evo that didnt have a limiter and oddly evough it was an 05. and ive flashed tons of evos.....

i guess maybe some just didnt have limiters for some reason....

03-04 Evo's don't come with stationary rev limiter (aka 2 step launch control) in USA. I have not ran into a stock rom in those years that have these features. You must not live in the US if you have those as stock features.

(Orignal poster) Go to ECUflash section for more information on retrieving your rom or downloading stock roms. Open up each catagory in ECUFlash and compare. Simple as that.

One other thing I like to add though, just because a car was flashed for 2 step doesn't necessary mean that the fuel and timing has been flashed (if that is what you're trying to find out). That might just be a feature that someone wants and flashing that option is relatively easy. To flash fuel map and timing (for power mods), they would have to do that on a dyno or have a wideband hooked up. Anyone with a tactrix cable can flash the 2 step on the evo without changing anything in the fuel and timing maps.

So you're saying, one can flash his ECU himself? So once you get in to change flash the 2 step, you can change fuel and timing maps?

nope, USDM evos only got that feature in 05 and 06.

is there a way to check the read/write date with the tactrix cable? that would be alot easier than comparing the a/f's and such visually.

yes. you just need a tactrix cable and the software for your computer. one of the nice features of this is that you can get mail in flashes from tuners. for example i got a CBRD tune on my car. i logged some pulls with the car in stock form. sent them the logs. they sent me back a tune, and i flashed it to the ecu myself.
