Weight of Cams

Hello guys.

Anyone here who knows how much stock cams (no mivec) weight?!
And anyone here who knows what cosworth-cams weight?

I heard that cosworth cams are heavier than stock cams?

Is it right?

yes. the stock cams are hollow and most aftermarket cams are solid. there are a few exceptions:

HKS mivec intake cam is hollow
an evo 8 brand made both cams hollow... don't remember the brand though.

the weight difference is pretty small (like a pound or two). i've weighed them both and have the numbers at home, but remember the weigh makes a difference when it rotates, but because it rotates along the long axis, the weight differences is almost nothing as far as rotational weight is concerned.

I'm pretty sure the helix ones are what you're thinking of.

yes, helix are the aftermarket cams that are hollow. F=MA, or force is equal to the mass times the accelaration rate. Since the core of the cam is the hollow part, and it has such a short distance to travel (short radius), it's going to be a negligable gain by going hollow core. It's more a marketing gimic. Similiar to when Mazda was touting their hollow fiber carpet in the RX-7 to save weight.

my helix cams make more power than hks 272. Is it becuase they are hollow? I don't know, and I don't care, because they still made more power.
