gt35r motor internal build suggestions
Hey guys kinda looking to do pistons and rods in my car and up the boost. Since the pistons is what normally goes wrong or a rod breaks. What suggestions do you have? I was looking at doing weisco pistons and eagle rods. Now on that if i just do the standard piston and rods i sholdnt have to have any machine work would i? looking at doing the weisco 9:0:1 pistons i believe thats the standard compression ratio if your not doing a stroker. If you have any feedback on this setup let me know. Also looking at upgrading my cams to 280s or an agressive set of 272s. What would my options be on this. Looking to stay on stock computer and not upgrade that. Also not looking to upgrade the valvetrain if possible. Im looking to run 30-33 psi daily but want it to be reliable. I only want to do this one more time! My setup right now is in my sig. Thanks for any info. Also i would be running meth/alcohol. And ive saw some many threads on headstuds and mixed reviews what should i do on those.

A lot of people might tell you to just drop in new pistons with new rings and maybe do a light hone in situ but I don't think your chances of a nice running motor are too high with this method in my opinion (which does not count for all that much!
)If you have too many miles on the motor it's possible your bore size is not suitable for dropping in std size pistons.
As for compression ratio, you can put in 9:1, 8.5:1, whatever piston you like... if I'm not mistaken.
It it was me personally I'd have save up for a proper build from a vendor on this forum who you know sells A LOT of motors. Buschur, AMS, JAM... the usual suspects.
The problem is the bore could be perfect but my understanding is it must be honed to a finish which has cross-hatch marks that help the rings bed in and seal properly. Often times people will hone with the block in the car but it seems scary to me grinding away at the bores and all those metal bits getting everywhere.
Buschur AFAIK do a drop in piston / rod deal. You should give them a bell and ask what is involved... if you keep your stock rings... if a hone is needed... etc.

its not that eagle rods are bad or that they break, its just eagle rods are a entry level rod, and commonly thought of as cheap . ei not best for a DD car that gets beaten down, personally i would opt for a wiseco/eagle combo, eagle would be fine imo, hone your block during install and be done with it, and one last thing, buy the combo from me
i give buschur a call he is an expert on this type of things,,,,
i am thinking about the same thing ,,,, but i wana do manley rods or olivers,,, and wisecco pistons or ross.

Ross has drop in pistons if you need them. A bit prices but well worth it.
