HKS cams are intended to be compatible with the factory valvetrain and stock head. This is accomplished by using mild ramp rates and stock-like valve lift.

If you are retaining the stock head and valvetrain, the HKS 272, 280, or GSC S1 is what you'd select.

whatever you'd like to go with, there are so many choices out there... you can even go with hks 264 if you want. but if you want most hp, and don't mind upgrade spring/retainer, go with the most aggressive ones, it will give you the most hp, it's a very easy choice.

I have driven an '03 with a 35R and HKS 280's, and it pulle dlike crazy. I haven't seen first hand what the other cams are like, but the HKS's are animals.

Depends on the application, if it is all about a peak number or drag racing number than I would probably say go for the S2 cams. If you end up with a larger turbo or a ported head and a built 2.0 or even a stroker then that is the cam you would want to use.

If the car is going to stay on a stock head and 2.0 and a GT35R, I would run a set of S1's. I think the power under the curve of the S1s on a GT35R is pretty damn impressive especially on a stock long block setup.

Greg,

how much more hp would the s2's put out? im looking at keeping it 2.0 and sticking with the gt-35r perhaps down the line building the 2.0. the car is daily driven and would like a suddle change in idle but manageable in stop and go traffic. If it is possible to put 500whp to the ground on s1's i will do that. i dont want to loose any low end or mid-range power

that's the rub..... low end/mindrange vs. peak hp. You give up one to get the other. You can do this with cam selection or even cam timing on the same cams. The S2's are going to put up more peak hp vs. S1's, but at the expense of midrange. IIRC, it's like a gain of 10 whp peak, but a loss of up to 50 ft.lbs of torque through the midrange. There's several threads about this, and those numbers are coming from memory so don't quote me. So you have to decide if you want good area under the hp curve (like for street duty and road racing) or do you want peak hp (like for drag racing).
