need help with boost leak

hey whats up, I got a 2003 evo, recently I installed my hallman manual boost controller and then took my car out for a test ride. the controller was turned totally off and I was seeing 14-15psi tops, then I was going home and I stepped on it one last time and it shot up to 30psi and i heard a huge pop and the car was then ready to die ( I thought I blew the motor). well I finally made it home and saw that the line from the controller popped off from the bottom where the turbo connects too, and that the lower intercooler pipe blew off. I also through a check engine light for the TPS sensor p0121. so I fixed everything, and now I have a bad vibration in the steering wheel and the car boosts to 15 psi in 1st and 2nd gear then in 3rd and 4th it will go to 15psi then slow build up to about 23-24 psi up around 6000rpm. I did change the spark plugs to 1 degree colder. I have some mods like a bushur racing turbo back 3in exhaust, a buschur lower intercooler pipe, buschur air filter kit, forge rs recirculation valve, hks 272 cams, a 10.5 hotside and the hallman controller. I do hear sucking of air but I think it just the air filter. could I have some bent valves, or just a bad leak somewhere, this **** is really pissing me off. also could the controller have taken a **** on me. please give me some feed back.

Go to lowes and get a 3inch rubber cup. drill a whole in the center of it and put a valve stem in it. put it on the compressor side of the turbo and fill it with air from a compressor. Make sure you turn the pressure down on the compressor to about 25psi or you might blow the piston rings.

Listen if air leaks somewhere maybe use some water around the pipes and couplers good luck homie.

That huge pop was just your LICP popping off. Are you sure you have the lines connected to your Hallman right? Do a boost leak test and then get back to us with the results. Sounds like you have a bad leak.

yeah the lines are right, the hose from the side goes to the wastegate and the one from the turbo goes to the bottom of the controller. I really got to do a pressure test on it! I'm just making sure I didn't bend any valves!

make sure you block off the pcv valve because air will leak out during the test if you dont.

also there is a vacuum line that comes off the valve cover that goes into the intake pipe make sure to block that one off too.

I doubt you bent any valves. Are you tuned for the extra boost? I would think you have some sort of tune if you didn't hit fuel cut at 30#'s.

ok I did a pressure test on my intercooler pipes this weekend. and I found a leak on the lower intercooler pipe coming off the turbo. so I fixed it. I also took my hallman manual controller off and put my friends forge controller on. I turned the controller all the way down. when I went for a ride I saw boost levels between 18-19 psi then it would creep to 23psi in 3rd and 4th. I though when the controller was turned all the way down it would run off of wastegate pressure which would be 12-13psi. I know it is cold outside in new jersey so it could possibly creep, but the controller is all the way down and turned completely shut. so if any of you have any ideas what the hell I should do please give me a shout out. thanks !

Yeah the pop was your licp.

Since you tried two different boost controllers and still have the problem, you may have it hooked up wrong. The nipple closest to the adjustment knob should go to the wastegate, and the other nipple that flows parallel of the adjustment knob is t'd into the bov line.

when I bought the car the actuator was fine it was boosting perfect to 19 20 psi then I took the pill out and saw 22psi, I don't see how it could have just went bad after I spiked hard one time up to 30 psi. I have the controller hooked up right, the side nipple going to the wastegate and the the other going to the turbo nipple with the controller set to all the way off and I'm seeing 17-18psi in first gear 18-19psi in second gear and then it goes to 20psi in third and 23psi in 4th. the other day I did throw a code for random misfires in all cylinders. the car shakes and vibrates alot now ever since I overboosted. I did change the plugs to copper one degree colder with a gap of .026. and still seeing the same results!

advice. get rid of those copper plugs dude in a hurry. copper and platinum plugs are crap and they can actually melt. invest in a set of iridium plugs. that could be where your misfire problem is coming from. copper and iridium are fine on a naturally aspirated car but on turbo applications they suck.
