Eh, I'm happy with the AEM, im not going to go buying another ECU for no reason at this point really. From here on its just the fine tuning things like ignition and suspension tuning. and possibly different wheels/tires for circuit racing

G'day MM,

It's been a while since I've checked in........damn you've been busy. You have done a great job, with some very well thought out parts only making it better mate. Congratulation on a very nice ride, nothing over the top & it just gels.

I see you have helped out the US economy in the last year MM, that's some serious coin you've invested. Just go out & enjoy that beast my friend.

Hope you had a great Xmas & have a better New Year in 09.

Regards from Oz

Steve

i know its a little late.. but i just wanted to point out that the FQ-400 tested on Top Gear was the absolute poorest car they ever tested for gas mileage.. something like 3 miles to the gallon! might not be the example you want.. either way.. great job with the car...

If you track it, then you'll see mpg in the single digit range. Otherwise, you will see at least around 16-18ish for cities since you will never be in the boost unless you gas it all the time.

otherwise your just making an evo like everyone else's and its not special.
The aftermarket parts on the FQ400 are not OEM parts.

i know that.. Top Gear don't exactly baby their test cars.. but that is how it bullied the lambo into making a mistake.. on the gas all the time, averaging 3 mpg. Just wanted to say there are ways to make gobs of horsepower without such a huge sacrifice in gas mileage.

I would still go to Sean@IVEYTUNE for a tune on that AEM EMS. A great tune makes all the difference...

Thanx man. And I don't care for overshooting the 400 point, now I can slap a sticker on my trunk that says FQ500 and have a laugh!

I can't exactly give you an amount as to how much I lowered it, but check out the gap between my tire and wheel well to give you an idea. And I know what you mean about bumps and what not. I have the evo9 with the SE lip, so I am VERY careful with that as well. at stock height, you have to angle driveways, now, it's even worse, and i go in tri-pod mode climbing up them. I would definitely not recommend lowering more than I lowered mine for daily use, and weekend warrior (which is what I use mine for) hope this helps. Also, be careful of your oil pan, and make sure you are using SHORT oil filters. The 6 point carbing brace WILL help you out if you bottom out in a crazy spot, since it becomes the lowest part of the car better to break something easily replacable if you know what i mean.

Note that the turbo that is in my car, is by no means as massive as the turbo that is in the FQ400. I wouldnt be surprised at all if my car produces the same, if not better gas milage. having bigger injectors DOESNT mean that they are squirting that much fuel all the time. just means their potential. and the reason i went so big, was basically for 'insurance' and safety. also, you know how hunger grows.. Not to mention, with the AEM EMS, i'll be fitting a switch somewhere on my dash that will enable me to change fuel/timing maps, and switch to a "gas milage" map. I'll be hitting over 30mpg on long distance trips.

Easily. When you track.... any car will see it's worste fuel economy. But we aint there to save gas! LOL

Haha steve! you are the man.... I wish either I lived in Australia, (which I plan to visit sometime soon) or you lived in NY. We should go to a race day one of these days while gas cars are still in production! LoL

I plan on doing miiiiiiiiiinor upgrades to the car as race days proceed. I'll be contacting white line for some bushing kits. (leaving them for last, just to see which are necessary) I may get the bump steer kit asap, but as for others, I want to hear their feedback on benefits from them. Glad you enjoyed my thread! Xmas was great, and I spent new years with the fam. :-) hope everything is going your way on your end man! ttys.

I'd love to meet up one day mate...here or in the US for a few quietese. My door is always open & you are welcome anytime if you head Downunder.

I also went with a few Whiteline parts myself, I got the roll centre kit as my IX is lowered abit, their heaviest f & r sway bars & also their rear strut tower brace (over the rear shocks). Very nice quality & these parts tightened up my Evo in corners, giving it a fairly flattish stance. I would've got the bump steer kit had finance agreed.

If I did more track work I would look into their bushing kits as well. The roll centre kit is recommended for lowered cars & would complement your new coilovers.

Take care my friend MM.....& drive that bish like you stole her.

Cheers Steve
