so im pullin the head!
so my head studs are stretched...im goin to be ordering new studs and a head gasket. i wanted to order some springs and retainers while the heads off..what brand do you guys suggest? im running hks 272s. and what are conrod bolts??? thanks!!
AMS offers some new head studs that are superior to ARP's. Not sure if you need them, but they are better. What rpm are you going to rev to? That will help determine how much spring you need. Conrod bolts are connecting rod bolts. The bolts that hold the rod to the crank.
^^yea ive seen those studs im pretty sure i wont been seeing those kind of cylinder pressures anytime soon..right now revving my motor to 7000 jus feels kinda iffy to me haha jus doesnt seem like the motor will want to rev much higher. i wanna be able to rev 7500 8000 with now worries. i was lookin at the gsc single springs are these any good?
GSC makes very good products. The springs are probably made by someone else, and he just puts his label on them, but they meet his specifications.
The stock rev limiter is higher than 7000 rpms fyi.

what are the mods on the car? and how do you know your stock headstuds stretched? and you are only revving the car to 7000rpm? stock rev limiter is 7600 rpm, and its safe to raise it to 7800-8000 without any mods to the valve train.
I reved stock springs and connecting rod bolts to 8000rpm for a few years without any issues, and the last year of the engine life had HKS 272's. When my engine finally blew it was a rod that broke. Car had probably a 100+ drag runs on the stock turbo, and I had stepped up to a 50trim with methanol sitting right about 500HP. Stock engine let go at 74,000 miles and was run fairly hard
Since your pulling the head though you need to figure how far you want to go/plan to go now and dont take extra steps if you dont have too. Several companies offer race head builds so if your planning to go big now is the time to get that dealt with while its apart.
If your budget building/preventative for safety and not going big then springs/retainers dropped into the stock head is a great idea. Connecting rod bolts don't hurt either.
