Something broke during launch today :(

I was at the drag strip today, brought the car up to 6,000rpm's (2 step), let the clutch out and didn't move an inch and heard a loud boom.

I wasn't able to drive the car from the starting line and had the car pushed into the parking lot. I was able to fire the car up and drive 5-10mph to the other side of the parking lot. Then 30 minutes later I tried to move the car again and as soon as I let the clutch out I heard a really loud gear on gear grind and the car wouldn't budge. As we were pushing the car out of the raceway we would hear grinding when we turned the wheel. Now the car is at home with the front end jacked up and we can rotate the wheels in reverse but have resistance rolling them forward. We just drained the tranny fluid and noticed some metal on the drain plug and noticed that the tranny fluid looks kind of milky.

Were going to drain the transfer case next. Any ideas on what exactly broke?

George

Snapped axle?

Just throwing out idea, cuz it's not that common for ours cars to do that unless you are pushing quite a bit of hp/tq and running slicks

Update. I put a stethiscope (spell check please) and the noise is coming from the trans. I guess its either the front diff or maybe a stripped out half shaft end.

sounds like you busted either your center differential or your tranny is fried... if you had metal shavings in the oil, you probobly tweaked/broke your center diff.

It does it in all of the gears, so I dont think that it would be the trans

sounds like what happened to me. 2 stepping at 6k, let the clutch out and and boom. snapped both rear axles. i was able to drive it though. it wasnt locked up like you mentioned, so it may not be the axles.

well, there is a long history of the transfer cases going bad... if you did blow it, dont mention anything about racing, and hope your warranty will cover it...

My buddy posted on my computer under my name today, not my car. He is still on the stock turbo, but wont be trying to get it covered under warranty.
