Will a IX mivec map work on a VIII
Will a IX mivec map work on a VIII
I have a concern that the company that I am getting my tunes from may have given me one for a IX mivec motor instead of one for a VIII. Is this even possible and if so should I be worried. I sent them an email but I have yet to hear back from them.
I'm no expert, but the ECU is different. I'm not so sure you'd even be able to upload it. If you are able to, the MIVEC is going to screw up everything since you don't have it. I'm sure they tune different for MIVEC in addition to the MIVEC tuning itself.
The reason I think this is because my idle is up and down 900 to 1200 at idle. Also, I have emailed them a couple of times about what boost I should run and they keep referring to a IX mivec motor. Eventhough in every email I send them it says that it is for a VIII and what mods I have.
In my opinion, Idle is extremely hard to tune for unless you're actually in the car. It's open loop or whatever, so it does it's own thing. Try adjusting the idle screw on the TB.

I have almost the same mods as you including cams. I have yet to adjust the idle using the screw on the TB. I am hoping I can get it a little better since it is friggin annoying.

Don't touch the idle screw. You will create more headaches for yourself.
As far as your tune, you wouldn't be able to load a IX tune into a VIII ECU. If your car starts then you probably have the correct ROM. Sounds like either a bad tune or a mechanical problem.

I wish I could help you out more, but the guys at CBRD adjusted my idle for me with only the screw. It was lopey, but it didn't give me any problems. On my Turbotrix tune, they tuned the idle and now it's very close to stock-like. It does do a slight spike or drop in RPM's whenever I'm on and off the throttle in traffic or something. Other than that, it's good.
We origially thought that the cams were off after the install and that was causing the up and down idle. However we went back and looked and they are lined up as they should be. The company that sent me the tune recommended adjusting the idle screw so now I am confused. Is it normal after cams to have to adjust the idle screw or am I one of the unlucky ones that has this problem with the idle
One last question... After fully warmed up, with the AC and defroster OFF, at what RPM does your car idle at? (I know it fluctuates, but it should settle down at least for a second or two...) Stock is around 850-950. Slightly higher with the AC on. Mine is like 1,050 normal. That 100 rpms might be the difference.

Check out step # 40. I'm not saying to go crazy with the screw, but a turn or two at a time won't hurt. Just make very sure you know where you started, just in case it gets worse.
Probably not a night and day difference, but it's a good starting point.
