GM MAF + intake size

hi everyone im going to get a MAF translator with the GM 3 inch MAF and i was wondering what intake filter you guys were running? and what i should run:

A) buchur air filter (no hard piping because i have been reading that if you have cams, which i do, and use a hard piping ; it will cause idle issues)

B) velocity stack : http://www.turbohoses.com/velocity_stack.htm
with 6x 5.5 inch cone intake
http://www.turbohoses.com/filters.htm ( the 6 in. mounting one)

C) velocity stack with a 6in. flange and 7 1/4in. bottom 4 3/4in. top 6in length cone intake filter ( second from bottom on cones)
http://www.realtruck.com/productline...itqKv_AyCxirIS

D) velocity stack with 6in. flange 7 4/1in. bottom 5in. top and 9in. height cone intake filter ( last on cones)
http://www.realtruck.com/productline...itqKv_AyCxirIS

is there a downfall to running a HUGE intake like the 7 1/4 in. x 9 in.?
will it hinder anything

as always thanks for your imput and advise

If you are getting at GM MAF, you should set it up for a blow through set-up so that you don't have to be troubled with recircing a BOV. Seems like you are planning on setting it up in place of the stock MAF, by discussing what your intake options are.

What you really should do is just purchase a simple intake that doesn't have a provision for the stock MAF, so you can just slap an air filter onto the intake pipe. The Upper I/C pipe should be split, and the GM MAF placed inline of your upper I/C pipe. Then, you do not have to recirc your BOV, and it is a cleaner set-up.

Just a suggestion.

Vince,
Chris from MELLON and I had posted a few points about running a GM MAF & Translater.
I hope you find this helpful... Posts 51 - 57...

What turbo will you be running? It used to be in the old days that Granatelli Motorsports offered a 3.5" GM "style" MAF. However, I think that nowadays there are genuine GM, or OEM, 3.5" MAF sensors available, but I'm not sure.

I plan on doing this on my Green: 4" inlet Evo 400 or TurboDynamics compressor housing, connected to a 3.5" GM style MAF via a 3.5"-4" silicone coupler, 4" pipe with recirculating provision, cone filter with 5" oulet to a 5">4" silicone coupler connected to MAF inlet via a 4" hose and some sort of 4"-3.5" transitional coupler.

I think that bigger air filter=better.

If your running a VTA BOV you need to be running blow through after the BOV. The 3" GM MAF works well on 2.5" IC piping. If your running draw through then you want the biggest model you can find to limit restriction. I ran a 3.5" draw through. I've ran both ways and they both run the same. The draw through is nice because when you boost leak the AFR's richen up and you know there is a problem. The blow through is nice because you can VTA when you need to run that big tial. If running blow through make sure you aren't spraying water or meth as when it hits the sensor it will kill it.

I'm using Dejon Tool's setup. They send you the couplers for a 3" MAF, but I already had a 3.5", so I had to purchase new couplers. I also am using their intake pipe with an ebay filter. I can get pictures if you like.

those of you with a larger than 3 inch GM MAF, does the MAF traslator from ETS work just the same with 3.5, and 4 inch MAF as it does the 3 inch?

does it install just the same in a blow thru system? plug just the same?

like this one
