Maybe your car sensed the "backfire" as knock and started to pull timing which is why the engine started losing performance?

Also, I know you said your stock besides the turbo back. But just to verify, that means your blow off valve is stock too right?

yah me too. if it completely lost power then yes it could have been a fuel cut or timing pull......do you have any gauges (afr, boost)??? i wanna say that its not the tune though since all you have is a TBE. even if the ecu did pull timing or fuel thats weird.

i wanna almost tell ya to check the spark plugs

this happened to me when I first put on my exhaust, and was running around untuned for a bit... I think it was a backfire from running crazy rich, and it also happened when I was WOT in 4th gear...

Fuel cut doesn't make a loud "pop" noise, but it will slow you down as well...

IC piping will make this loud "pop" while going WOT and feels like you hit something, but the car will immediately go into limp mode where you can barely drive 5mph until you get out and re-attach the loose pipe...

BTW, I got a tactrix cable and an ECUflash tune, and this never happened again. (besides the car driving much smoother and making much more power)

Check your throttle body elbow. Mine used to pop off and it sounded just like that....

you need to give us more details if you want us to help you. Tell us your what boost your running during shifting. Plus it's cold out, my car did the same thing with a TB exhaust until I got a walboro and it went away after my tune. But from what I've ready I'm just guessing like everyone else-more data please.

GUys thanks a lot I really appreciate the help from everyone.....sorry I wasn't more specific, but like I mentioned the car is completely stock with the exception of the TBE, I do not have any gauges, it was quite cold outside.....as far as the pop goes, I did let go of the gas pedal as soon as I heard the noise since I thought something happened to the motor, but at the same time immediately as the POP noise came the engine seemed to sort of die....the weird part is I kept doin pulls from 1st 2nd an 3rd and all seemed fine. ONly 4th gear was the issue. Also, I have had this exhaust for quite some time now so I am wonderin why its happening now an didnt happen when I first got it? Although this was probably the coldest weather I have floored it in, could it be backfire?.......thanks again for all the help fellas....

Also Im sorry I forgot to add.....the POP seemed to come from the middle of the car as well as the front.......which leads to me to think it could be something with the exhaust......^^^^

i think you are overboosting... remember when its colder outside, the air is more dense, thus more boost. At this point you hit fuel cut and the power is dramatically decreased. Like this guy said, get a tune and a mbc

I popped a hose half way off once and was still able to drive the car. When I would get it on it would make the same popping noise again. If it is all the way off then he shouldn't be able to drive, but it may just be off a little.

I recommend the OP check all his IC piping first.

My car will do this when it is running way rich. Probably the TBE and the cold weather are causing your car to run at higher boost levels resulting in the ECU switching over to higher load cells. Log it and you'll see it's running way rich above 5000RPM and you need a tune to remove fuel from the table, above 5000 RPM.
