Valvesprings and Cosworth Mivec Cams

Do I need to upgrade the springs/retainers if I just want to rev 8K for going through the traps? And if so whose kit should I go with?

I opted to not go for the springs simply to conserve cash and set my rev limiter to 7500, but if you are only going to be going to 8k once every now and then while dragging, it will probably be ok and not hurt the motor. But if you plan on doing multiple runs all day long, I would upgrade for the peace of mind

it is not necessary...keep in mind this is with your rev limiter no higher than 7,600

if you have the car tuned and increase the limiter than yes it'd be a wise choice to upgrade your valvetrain

Cosworth cams (unlike HKS) have a higher lift then stock cams so the spring will have to compress much more. The actual lobe on the camshaft basically sticks out more so it will compress the spring more. I always suggest customers should replace the valvetrain regardless of rev limit on a set of cams with higher lift. I mean obviously everything on evos is made to handle more then it comes with but its a good idea to get it done while your in there. Below is a picture and GIF of how it works basically. ITS NOT AN EVO HEAD THOUGH, BUT SAME CONCEPT. Imagine those lobes being larger or sticking off of the cam more. They would compress the spring more at all rpms.

does anyone have recommendations for NON titanium retainers (supertech was mentioned but i thought they were titanium). I know over time titanium retainers can gall and need to be replaced somewhat often. I would be willing to sacrifice a little weight for longevity.
