Hks Evc Vi??

Hey guys,

Im looking to go the HKS EVC VI route because of its ability to map boost against throttle position... I don't have awd so when boost shoots up in the middle of a long turn in cold weather, rear tires break loose and things get scary.. It looks like the EVC VI with the Easy Writer software is the setup that can map boost against TP or is there another controller you guys recommend?

Thanks,

John

You looking at the right EBC for what you need, though map it against the RPM (which you can do as well as TP) since in your case if you have traction issues not lack of boost in lower gear issues. TP mapping may not do it.

Apexi AVC-R may also do the trick, though as retail both the latest HKS-6 is easier to install and operate. And its very consistent.

thanks for the info, it looks like the HKS-6 is the way to go.. Some background on my setup.. I currently make full boost (7.5lbs) at 4,000rpms. My power range starts at 4k and runs up to 6500rpms.. As for boost in lower gears, I've never bothered to go full throttle in 1st or 2nd since the car spins in 3rd at 80mph but I have heard others with this setup say that they don't make full boost in the lower gears such as 1st and 2nd.. If the ebc can be setup to fix that, that would be awesome but with my current situation (full boost at partial throttle) my main objective is to limit boost in partial throttle...

If I understand you correctly, I can map boost against RPM and TP? So, I can map boost so I make 2lbs at 50% throttle at 4,000rpms, and 4lbs at 50% throttle at 6,000rpms?

How exactly is this mapped with the writer software? Do you have any pictures of the interface? How difficult is it to set this up?

thanks agian

You can map against RPM and TP, and it works like you describe. Although, I have not had the Easy Writer yet, im sure its the best way to set it up. So far as I've figured with mine. One interesting thing I learn the other day was, that one can bring in boost earlier with the EVC-6. I have yet to figure it all out yet. I will be ordering the Easy Writer this week most likely.

In what increments does the controller allow you to make adjustments? RPMs-every 100? TPS - every 10%?

I tried finding the instructions which would provide answers but I haven't been able to find them anywhere..

Thanks,

John

RPM's every 100, and TP every 1% .

Can it control boost based on what gear you are in too?

Boost can not be set by gear, but can be set by the MPH. It's really kind of the same.

Can I set up the EVC 6 without EWS.
Does the EWS do something more?
I understand that it makes the set up easier but.... this is it???

The EWS also lets you log your Boost curve in comparison to TPS, RPM and Speed. It helps when you are trying to set your boost curve up. It can also help to achieve boost earlier with the boost copensation map in conjuntion with the offset map. The 5x5 maps make it really nice when you are trying to visualize why things are happening, the way they are. One really can't set up the advanced functions without it.
