How heavy is the Tilton twin disc....

I am considering getting the 860lbs tilton twin disc setup in the next couple weeks. The build is going to put down very close if not over 600hp on pump meth, so I am trying to leave myself play room for launching.

SO anyway is this clutch pedal stupid stiff or is it still bearable if I had to drive this on the roads?

11 pounds, i had it and hated it. It wasn't worth the minimal performance gain for the HUGE amount of noise the clutch made. I got stares at by every when when it made a loud shreek....

Better suggestions? I should make mids 500tq on pump/meth and 600 or so on race.

I would recommend the Tilton twin carbon or look at the Exedy Triple Cerametallic HD.

I ran the Exedy triple in mine and loved it.

I have driven both the Tilton and Exedy. Both are nice IMO, both will hold power and both can be rebuilt when the time comes.

I run a ATS Carbon Twin Disc with a Shep built 5spd

Love it!

IMO the most streetable 600 hp clutch for a good price. Nice and smooth down low with good pedal feel and when time to shift at redline clutch grabs hard.

A $4500 tilton carbon is not realistic, necessary or practical for his application.

Same goes for the 900whp drag EXEDY you have recommended.

600whp would work well with an EXEDY twin cerametallic, Carbonetics twin 1350kg, ACT HD or XT with cerametallic puck disc. All of which are from 11%- 35% of the cost of the Tilton carbon twin, rated for 900-1200HP.

Because they wear out slower when used for drag racing only.

Spending good money for a clutch thats going to LAST and HOLD the power reliably that he's wanting to make isnt realistic, necessary or practical for someone spending the money already to make 600whp?

Are you feeling ok?

Yes the Tilton is some cash and thats why I threw the Exedy Triple out there as its a bit more cost friendly.

I had the Exedy twin cerametallic HD in my car making 462whp and 398ft. trq (on our mustang dyno so yes thats WHEEL HORSEPOWER) that was slipping and shot after a little over 2000 miles and 21 drag strip passes so yeah....that would be a much better route to send someone down thats looking to make 600whp.

When my twin HD took a dump I went with the triple and had NO problems whatsoever with it. I loved it!

The ACT falls into that same category of reliability not to mention being a "throw away" clutch once its toast along with the harsh engagement it will provide.

If we are in fact talking about ACTUAL wheel horsepower and not inflated Dynojet #'s here let me ask you a question..... How many high horsepower cars has TTP put out that fall into this category? Im not saying this to be a butthole im just asking since you think the clutches I recommended are total overkill.

We have built NUMEROUS 600 WHEEL HORSEPOWER cars. We have ran just about any clutch you can think of in order to find whats going to hold at that power level and hold it reliably.

Take this care for example: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ghlight=marque

There is NO way possible a Exedy twin would hold up in that car for any amount of time under any type of abuse especially at the 600+whp level.

You may want to look at the torque ratings as well on those clutches instead of the HP. Sure you can run the clutches you recommend if you plan on only driving the thing to and from work and throwing minimal to no abuse at all at the car.

A TRUE 600whp car NEEDS the clutches I recommended. Thats why I recommended them so he would make the RIGHT choice. He already mentioned the Tilton in his post as the one he was looking at.

Like I tell my customers.... "You can buy it once or twice. You might as well buy it right the first time instead of the next time and save yourself the grief and money."

I had the twin matlic in my 700 whp civic for three years before i rebuild it once and the cost of rebuild was less than buying a another throw away. The engagement was a little harsh but nothing intolerable. I almost always recommend tilton clutches for customers that are tough on there cars.
