HKS 272 w/o Springs or Headstuds

Yes that is correct i found out that evo i bought has HKS 272 with no ARP headstuds or springs.

I have already bought the headstuds and am waiting on the springs, but pretty scary to know you have cams and are revving to 8000rpms with no springs or studs.

Thats fine with 272's, pretty sure.

Headstuds have nothing to do with cams, it's lifting the head due to added boost in which you may need upgarded studs but then again your stockers may hold added pressure just fine.

I don't think you need springs for HKS 272's either.

Stock turbo? Stock headbolts are fine.

HKS 272s I would limit to ~7800-7850 rpm...I've had this combination for about a year with no problems. Start doing a lot of high rpm (>7850) for long periods, I would look at better springs and retainers.

Those cams were made to run on stock valvetrain up to stock rev limit. Don't go higher and you'll be fine.

272 are fine as said before..7500 max rpm...and not for extended time. Only when you drag and want to run out 4th gear.

Been running the HKS 272's on stock springs/retainers for a while.

The HKS 272's are not as aggressive as some other 272's.

Don't waste your money on headstuds. That is a myth. Also no point in revving to 8k since you aren't making any power at that rpm.

Yeah your car has 272s and no head studs or springs because it doesnt need them. I sold my car with 75000 miles on it with 272 hks cams in since only 3000 miles. Dont waste your money on either.

head studs are not a "myth" ! haha they work. if your cars stock then ya they're pretty pointless, but when your pushing 300+whp and upping the boost, head studs are a great investment. especially if down the road you go bigger turbo/more power.

as for cams, i've been running BC 272's for about 10k miles with stock valvetrain and rev to 8200 when dragging with no problem. if you have the money id say go for it and get springs.

I agree that head studs are a good idea, but I don't think I would do as most do and change them one at a time. I would not do it unless the head came off and a new gasket installed. Especially if you are going to be pushing some decent power through it. I wouldn't want any reason for the head gasket to leak!

you're right and wrong at the same time. Well if you're Roadracing course every extra rpm will help a lot more than you think.

7500, sometimes 8000 in 1st gear because of spinning, and revved it out to 8000 everytime in 4th gear when racing..
