when it rains it pores

well i finally got my new clutch in and i have been braking it in for the past week, i was on my way home from college on the interstate when all the sudden the car made a loud as noise, oil sprayed on the windshield, clunk clunk, smoke pores in through air vents and you would have thought car was on fire from all the smoke, i get out of the car and there is a long streak of oil. we had to wait for my friend to show up and when he got there my worst fears were confirmed.

my car slung a rod bearing, there was a pretty big hole in the block. it sucks , i was just cruising, not flooring or beating on the car at all, the car only has 27k on it and im only on a ix turbo, just a random incident with the 4g63, im also on a very very conservative tune, but on the plus side i am know getting a 2.3 stroker from ams and later on a 35r, im also thinking of sending my transfer case out for a build while my car is down, so anyways im done venting lol. hopefully the skies will clear up after i get all this fixed,-travis

Sad to hear! I know how it goes! I thought I had spun a bearing and was looking to go in the same direction as you, but I got lucky and the horrible noise I was hearing was the timing belt slapping around! Good Luck with your build!

It sounds more like you broke a rod and put it thru the block , not just spinning a rod bearing. Either way I feel your pain as I am in the same boat under the same curcumstance low speed cruising and bam broke . What other mods did you have on the car????

this has been happening alot more lately. apparently HKS Kansai tested a stock motor & determined that the stock rods are only good up to 400crank hp. as we know there are several cars making substantially more than that which will make failure inevitable. a few jaunts in the 25+psi range seem to be all it takes to hairline crack the rods which causes them to split in lower rpms where the torque curve is fatter.

sucks man. good luck on the new build & buy the strongest rods u can afford...

Um most spun rod bearings result with a rod being broken and being thrown through the block.
