Electronic vs Manual boost controller

Hey guys

I know a lot of people use manual, and are proven to work (and definitely a lot cheaper too) but aren't there advantages to getting an electronic one?
From what I can think of, Advantages:
-more accurate control of boost
-no more boost taper
-no more boost spikes
(other adv like scramble boost, multi preset boost settings, etc.)

or are these things not big enough of a factor for people to pay the extra $200-400?

Please provide some insight to help me make a decision

thanks!

You will always have boost taper, I had boost taper in my Greddy porfec B you can adjust boost spike a lot better with a ebc and you also have the luxury of adjusting it from inside the car. I think manual boost controllers work just as well and are more resposive for and cost 3 4 times less.

An import magazine did a test a few years ago of a MBC vs. various EBC's and the MBC out-performed most; only 1 or 2 EBC's performed as well. The only advantage I see the EBC having is the ability to easily adjust boost from inside the car.

this is the same question i had and have asked also. I have had actually seen a turturiol when the guy put the controller in the compartment under the AC controller. So he could adjust it from inside the car.

I have the Hallman in-cabin MBC. Perfect sucker. Never have to adjust it, even in freezing temperatures.

one of the downsides, aside from the price, that has kept me away from electronic boost control is that alot of the club races don't allow them in competition.

My experience with both:

MBC:
1. Cheap
2. Can control boost easily with a few pulls to test.
3. Hard to have different boost levels. Well.. the Forge has a click sound for every turn making it easier to set a few boost levels.
4. Had to go to the hood to adjust unless you get one installed inside the cabin.
5. You can have boost spikes and taper

EBC:
1. Not cheap
2. A little harder to setup boost and more parameters to deal with.
3. Very easy to have 2 to 4 different boost levels.
4. Very easy to switch between boost levels.
5. I can see a reduced boost taper (have logs on DLL to prove it). Have better control for boost spikes. If you want them... you can have the spikes or you can reduce them.

I bought a used Blitz iColor for around 400.00 (looks like out of the box) and can not be happier with it. Besides the boost control features, I have the Wideband, boost level, HP/TQ graphs (BTW... very close to the dynojet uncorrected values), RPM, Speed, peak values and fuel pressure... all displaying in one display.

Quite honestly... buy an EBC if you are going to be switching boost levels constantly. In most cases a cheap MBC will do the work.

Hope this helps!

joedr hit the nail on the head

I purchased a AEM TruBoost for no reason other than that I didn't have a boost gauge yet, or controller.
