Duration: 272 vs 268 cams on 16G

Calling out the big wheels

The question is on a stock evo-9 16G turbo whats the best choice of cams,, are Duration :272's to big for a stock turbo at 22-24 psi.

----some theories are go big you cant hurt it

---- i think you go to big without the propper supporting mods (30r up) you maybe loosing power.

----- maybe a reason why MAS is recomending GSC S1's on their stage 3 and not 272's

You cant just come out and say "272" or "268" because that is not all there is to a cam profile. There is lift, the ramp rate, and the duration (which is the 272 number). For example, JUN 264 cams are way more aggressive than a pair of HKS 272s.

HKS 272s which are mild, along with GSC 272s, are a great combination for the stock turbo.

if i understand correctly you are saying that a 272 cam is a great choice for the stock turbo,,,,,
i may be wrong and please correct me,,, i assume that the 264 cam would give me a nice bottom to mid range power and a 272 would sacrifice my bottom and give me mid and top

depends on what you want to use your car for, drag or autoX. You'll have to look into the custom grinds of the cam profile to get your best results. Most manufacturers won't disclose that information. You'll have to do more searching. I had BC 272 and they only netted me 18whp after my custome tune. I'm going to a green and we'll see if the BC will give me bigger numbers.

The BC cams aren't cutting it for the IX's. The Cossies are number one right now for the price. I am saving up for the jun's. The HKS cams have seen just as good of numbers as the cossies sometimes but cossies consistently make power. A 272 depending on the cam and its profiles is not too much for stock turbo.

We are talking about a Duration of 272, with a lift of 11.0MM,,

i was reading that for an unported head a .400 - .450 of lift is fine,, did the math theres is
. 0393700787 inches in one mm.

0.0393700787*11.0= .433 <<< the .433 is still within the criteria,, this math was done base on a cossi cam 272 MIVEC with a 11.0 MM lift

let not get to technical thou,,,,,,, and i am a noobie at this so please feel free to make any corrections

Well then you answered your own question. If you have the money I suggest the JUN cams. If not cossies.

Big wheels for what reason? You are asking a question that has been answered many times over and been tested even more. What cam in particular do you have in mind? So far no 272 cam made for the IX is too much for a stock turbo.

Too big for stock in my opinion. Let me check out the profiles again but the M1's are doing great. They average anywhere from mid 360-370whp.

I'm using the Cossi's (KK3921) 272 and have had great success with my IX stock turbo as far as TQ and HP is concerned...

I have to see if it is with Joe's Engine. If Buschur didn't ship it back, I'll have to find it. So far I haven't seen the springs come back. I won't sell them to you if I don't have them in my hands
