Intercooler Piping Materials

Does the material of the Intercooler Piping makes a big difference. The LICP is very close to the downpipe so I assume it gets a lot of heat from the exhaust. Heating the LICP means dumping hotter air in the intercooler. Hoter air is les dense so less actual air mass.

Anyway I have seen SS, Aluminum and I am not sure if anyone uses ceramic coating in this pipes. But what is the real life difference. From theory the Aluminum should be better that SS due to its higher thermal coeff. Ceramic coating should help too. Any experiences with the Intercooler Piping materials. This is for a daily driven and occasional autocross car, NO short drag races.

SS is the way to go. Aluminum heats up VERY easily and holds the heat very well so this is def not a material you want to use on IC pipes seeing it would heat up the air inside even more. SS holds up much better to heat, exactly why you dont see any aluminum exhausts. Stick with the SS seeing every aftermarket IC piping ive seen is SS, and it looks great polished!

Well the SS heats up faster than the SS but it also cools down faster. Actually the SS holds more heat once it gets heated up due to its lower thermal coeff. It is takes longer to heat up but once it is heated up it stay hot longer that Alum.

There has to be a reason for the stock intercooler pipes be made of Alum.

Aluminum is the better choice of the two. Lighter, dissipate heat faster. If you want to get the most out of your IC, try to wrap your UICP with heat reflecting material. It'll help a little bit. And if you are baller and know how, make your IC pipe out of carbon fiber.

get the Nisei metal LICP, and your set with no worries...... metal stands the heat than aluminun or SS

What? Steel is a metal. What do you mean by metal stands the heat?
