don't know for sure about the evo, but I would assume the reason for the cel is that the up and downstream o2 sensors are giving abou the same reading.
For the headers I put on my contour (yeah i know) you had to have mil eliminators which would basically cause the o2 sensor reading to vary enough and adjust the voltage enough to convence the ecu that the cat is still in place.
If you go to www.contour.org and search for mil eliminator you should come across some DIY instructions on how to build one. They plug in inline with the o2 sensor and only cost a few dollars to make.
Or, you could wait for a vendor to make them for the evo.
