Green 20G 9LT Ball Bearing conversion ?

Hi all , this White Rabit/Green/20G-9LT looks very interesting but seems to lack a ball bearing centre section . I have seen it mentioned though didn't find any details via google .

Is the ball bearing version the exact same thing turbine/compressor/housing wise ?

Cheers A .

I don't think you can get it with a ball bearing CHAR

If you search over on lancerregister you'll discover more info on the BB conversions. There are two or three British turbo shops that do the conversion. Try TurboDynamics, Essex Turbos, or Evo400.

If I'm not mistaken, they all three offer a BB conversion for the Green. In addition, they offer a shroud-ported compressor housing with a 4" inlet bellmouth, for use in conjuction with MAF-less bigbore induction kits.

Ultimately it's your money, but I consider the BB conversion to be overkill. I say this realizing that British Evo owners, place a great emphasis on improving turbo spoolup characteristics. Personally however, I just think that if you are going after an improvement in turbo spoolup, there are other, less expensive ways to achieve it.

EDIT: As I mentioned, if you want to research the BB Green subject try the search function over on the LancerRegister site. Stay away from the general search engines such as Google. You may have some success searching here on EvoM as well. There have been a few discussion threads dealing with BB conversions for the Green on our site.

Get you point - so besides spoolup, a ball bearing conversion isn't gona give you any more power... (unless you can put in bigger wheels or a bigger exhaust housing)

If you order the Green new from FP, you can have them configure it with a faster spooling 9.8 cm, or 9.0 cm turbine housing at no additional charge. With the 9.0 housing a journal bearinged Green should spool about as quickly as a BB Green with a 10.5 housing. The nice thing is that you save yourself a few Ducats.

I just prefer the idea of less oil sheer drag with BB centre sections , far preferable to smaller A/R turbine housings anyway . Its hard to believe that given the market Evos sell in Mitsubishi haven't been using BB's standard .

I think I did search here for BB Green turbo and found nothing , will try again here and at LancerRegister .

Thanks , A .

If you go ball bearing, you might as well go to a larger turbo and make it worthwhile.

considering exchange rate and shipping I'd say near $2000 USD.

Well these are designed to be a bolt on turbo and have the added twin scroll and integral waste gate advantages . To go away from the OEM theme usually means different manifolds and waste gates and the one off bits to support non std turbos . To my way of thinking just to get into the OEM ballpark is very likely going to mean the FR manifold + ext gate/s + TS 3071R or 3076R .

I guess the problem for FP (and possibly BR) is getting people to part with the brass for a BB Evo White Wabbit turbo given what power they can churn out .
My issue isn't for one second what these turbos are rated at and I take my hat off to DB and FR for developing the things for us . I just think that every avenue should be looked at to make a turbocharger system as seamless as possible because that's where the low down punch and free revving nature of the beast makes it a pleasure to drive .

Surely it can't be that hard to apply these turbines and compressors (plus their housings) to a ball bearing centre section . The issue would be making them an affordable item to market though the chance to have a bolt on 500 Hp/500 Ft lb turbo should be very appealing . Probably getting too far ahead but I'd reckon an extrude honed exhaust manifold/turbine housing could give little spool away and make even more power than they do now .

Anyway there are a few smart cookies here in Australia who've mucked around with non std BB centre section conversions so I'll have to see if they've done anything with Mitsy turbos .

Cheers A .

What exactly do you mean by, "far preferable"? Compared to what? Are you refering specifically to the EvoGreen turbo or just making a comparative generalization?

Robert, at Forced Performance has done back-to-back pressure/crossover testing comparing the 10.5 vs. the 9.0 housings on the EvoGreen. In conclusion he found the increase in backpressure to be quite minimal between the two housings. Surprising isn´t it?

Hey, if you´ve got the money to throw at a B.B. center section, which will make your turbo spoolup just a couple hundred RPM sooner, then do it. But, $2000 plus, for absolute zero horsepower gain is not w/i my discretionary budget.I am willing to bet that on pump gas, which would limit peak boost to about 23 PSI on an VIII, that there would be virtually no measurable difference in horsepower between a journal bearing equipped Green with a 9.0 housing and a 10.5 Housing Green with a B.B. center section. They would both spoolup about the same as well.

Any significant horsepower difference between the 10.5 and 9.0 housings on the Green would most likely be observed above 24 PSI on Race Gas. I still think that a B.B. center section is only one, albeit the most expensive, among many ways to improve spool on a Green.
