Sticky Throttle...HELP

my EVO IX MR has 63k miles on it, for the last 5-8k miles, the throttle has been sticking until the car warms up. for example, when i start the car cold, the throttle is stuck at the top, and lately it's gotten worse. i really have to put some effort into getting it to move. it only gets stuck at the top, then once it's loose, it's fine. once the car warms up it's fine. it only does it while the car is cold. anybody have any experience with this and know where it's getting stuck? is it getting stuck on the pedal inside the car, or is the problem on the throttle cable under the hood?

Since its only a cold issue its Carbon buildup on the T.B. get some carb cleaner, pull the I/C pipe off. Open the throttle plate and you should see a black ring in there. Clean it off.

any other ideas? It's not sticking under the hood. it's somewhere before it gets there. when i push the accelerator, it doesn't move and then get hung up like the throttle cable is holding it back. it just doesn't want to move. also, i popped the hood and moved the throttle cable with no problems at all.

its carbon buildup on the throttle plate. trust the people on here. pull the upper ic pipe and look in the tb. move the plate and notice how much black soot it in the opening. get some tb cleaner and an old toothbrush. spray some on the brush and lightly scrub everything you can get to. then take a clean shop cloth and get the body all polished up. put the pipe back on and go try it out.

sigh.... if it was getting stuck at the throttle body, the throttle cable wouldn't move freely while the pedal is still sticking. it's getting stuck before it ever reaches the throttle body so that can't be the problem.

lol wow...what part of "it's sticking BEFORE it gets under the hood" doesn't anybody get? if the throttle cable is moving freely, but the pedal is still stuck, it can't be the throttle body. if it were the throttle body, the cable would be stuck AT THE THROTTLE BODY, not at the pedal.

did you disconnect the throttle cable front the TB to see that the pedal is sticking? If not there's no way to tell and you should listen to all the above posters

why make a post asking for help when you don't want to listen to the recommendations? i had the exact problem. i could move the cable at the tb freely. but the difference? i listed to someone and checked the tb. low and behold, the cause was staring me in the face.

i would pull the throttle body off and spray the hell out if it with brake clean. the green can stuff.

it mike just have gum and grime on the throttle plate shaft. or it might not be your throttle body at all. check your throttle body cable for any kinks
