Toluene is 114 octane using the (R+M)/2 method and is about $6 - $10 a gallon. It's used in producing various grades of gasoline as it's a pure hydrocarbon (C7H8). Full combustion yields carbon dioxide and water, meaning it won't screw up your cat/O2 sensors. It's ridiculously easy to get a hold of (think hardware store or paint supply store). I don't know why people even waste money on octane boosters.

I think with E-85 around now, everyone has abandoned using additives.

^Except for the fact that not everyone is fortunate enough to have E-85 readily available...I just dont think I would ever use it considering the adverse effects on the engine in the long run.

Interesting to hear how people respond to the idea. Like was mentioned above, some of us are limited to what is avaialbe. In Montana there is no E85 and only the major cities have race gas.... so a huge majority of the car guys around here must rely on something else.

It is unfortunate that people have experienced certain side affects with this product. However I think it is important to keep some perspective. Everything is a compromise, you can't have high horsepower and the reliability of a stock engine. Just like you can't have race gas performance without some issues... either it be the cost of race gas, the side affects of additatives or ethanol.

THIS IS NOT OCATNE BOOSTER.... they are different, please don't muddy the waters.

a friend of mine was using it, then switched to E85. His car and the other in town that used it were pretty fast. I was considering it but gas here is expensive enough got to save someplace.

Incorrect. They changed owners a few years back, but they are alive and well. I am looking into becoming a distributor for them and I saw today during my search on here that Surgeline tuning out of Oregon is a distributor and an active EvoM party (they are connected with Cobb Tuning) as well.

We've run it in DSMs over the years, at one point we tried it back to back with VP103 unleaded. We were able to run a slightly more aggressive tune on 5 gallons of 93 + 1 bottle of Torco.
