compression test. need help/info please

here is the HOW TOO
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=154364

I followed the how too to the tee

ok i did the how to which worked great but here are my results.

1. 170 at 7 cranks 180 at 10 cranks
2. 175 at 7 cranks 180 at 10 cranks
3. 175 at 7 cranks 180 at 10 cranks
4. 180 at 7 cranks 185 at 10 cranks

i did not know how many cranks to allow so i did a reading a 5 7 and 10. 5 was the same at 7 basically..

so to the pro's how is my compression looking???

to do a wet test how much oil do we add?? do we do it when the motor is hot as well??

03 evo8
stock block
60k miles

my reason for doing this is because
1 i just felt i should do it
2. i have a catch can off my pcv valve and when i cleaned it out it smelt like fuel real bad. the oil/liquid inside was very black and did not have the texture of oil at all. i guess the fuel broke the oil down.
3. to learn more and get hands on.

sounds great to me, that oil crap out of the PCV is normal. mine is black and hard as a rock when its cold out, and when warm looks watered down oil or something.
all normal dude.

i know oil coming out of the pvc is normal. but mine stinks like gas/fuel. looks black like oil not thick at all. very very thin.

Think which is more likely to be "vapor"... then think which could you possibly "separate" more of with your catch can design.

Compression looks ok in my book, but then again, I'm not one of the "known" Evo engine builders here.

That's because you have a 9 and he has a 8.

Leak down test is when you put the cyl to TDC, fill it with air via a leak-down tester and measure it for any leak past the valves or rings.

Your Comp test looks pretty good and not much variance between cylinders, imho a leak down test isn't really needed but if you are being **** then go for it.

Thanks. Yea I don't have what I need to do a leak down test so I'm not going to worry about it. The main purpose I figured I would check all this stuff is because the car is starting to make some good power and I just wanted to make sure all was well befor I start to push it a little harder. I'm doing a build soon but would still like to know what I have is doing well. Thanks everyone for there input and help.
