Important question for the tranny experts

OK, so I'm in the middle of doing my clutch. I spent 6 hours today tearing it apart, and currently, the tranny is out and I'm ready to finish the install tomorrow...

I have one potential problem... when test fitting the new disc & pressure plate on the new flywheel (which is already bolted to the crank) we accidentally dropped the new clutch disc into a drain bucket of ATF. The new disc was almost completely submerged for a few seconds.

We took the disc out, sprayed it heavily with brake cleaner, and blew it off with the air line. We repeated this 3 more times, and we're going to let it air dry overnight.

So, did we ruin the new disc?

I'm asking for expert opinion here, so if you honestly do not know, then please do not post. Thanks, in advance!

I would say that it is probably ruined. My buddy had a blow pilot bearing on his camaro and oil saturated the clutch. The disc was ruined with only 3k miles on it. If you dont want to tear it down again i would recommend getting a new disc.

I had an input shaft seal blow on my Porsche, got a little trany fluid on the (almost new-1500 miles) disc. Cleaned it off with brake clean, washed off all visable traces of fluid. After reassembly, disc slipped horribly, contacted local Porsche track guru, he said disc was ruined once exposed to the tranny fluid. Had to take it all apart again and get a new disc. Save yourself the trouble of the second install and get a new disc.

Ok. Thanks. Not worth the headache of re-doing, so I'm out $200 for a new disc.

Great.

Great.
It happens man. If $200 is the cost of the worst mistake you make, i think you are doing ok.

Good point I'm still spending less than the $700 I was quoted for install labor.

Thanks guys. I had a new disc overnighted and we finished the install today.

Also threw on my coilovers, rotors, pads, new plugs, crushed my BOV... I'm sooooo ready for the Green install in 2 weeks!

First time doing it

6 hours from start until tranny was on the ground. We spent more time than necessary on one of the bell housing bolts because we didn't figure out how to get the TCase out of the way until after.

Another 6 hours to reinstall. It went pretty smoothly. We ran into two problems when we went to start it up... we had loosened a starter nut that didn't need to be loosened. Then, after we started, it started spewing oil everywhere... turned out my sending until for my oil pressure gauge finally broke... it had weakened during my rally winter driving and it picked a good time to fully break... better it be in the shop than on the road.

It's the ACT XTSS, so Xtreme Pressure Plate and Street Disc mated with a Fidanza flywheel. Feels really solid, I like it.

I weighed the stock flywheel at 15.0 lbs and the Fidanza at 9.8. You can easily tell the difference in free revs and downshifts.
