They should have excellent wear and very low dust. At the NAIAS I was told by the rep for the new ZR1 that the carbon ceramic rotors it comes with will probably never have to be replaced under "normal" use. . .

I would think they would be horrible on the street because I think carbon rotors and the pads to go along with them have to get really hot before it has much "optimal" friction. Kind of like slipping a C/C clutch to get some heat and bite in it . . .

This is an interesting proposition. I'm sure you'll see quite a bit of interest in it!

I don't care about rules..why

Cause the Caribbean has no rules

man life is so good here.....

this sounds awesome, I would just want to hear some more about performance, noise, longevity, etc....but I do realize this cant be done if they are not produced...are the gains from these rotors geared more for weight savings? or is there a significant gain in the area of heat and longevity of pads and rotors?

I have heard carbon rotors need a lot of heat in them before they work well. Anyone have any experience?

Hows the saying go?..

Build it and they will come....

But seriously there are a few that will talk about buying it but dont have the cash...and there are those that have the cash, but want it to be proven to work.

I for one would be that person that would love to see such a product. and if Dave is serious then im serious. Whens the first test?

they will be $2,000 + just for the fronts, so not for me.

and they will be ceramic carbon, i dont think they make carbon fiber rotors.

also i have read that they take some heat to them, in order to get them working at their max potential.

I'll take a CF wheel instead. I think I just saw an ad in turbo magazine and it only weighs 3lbs unlike the 17lb BBS

I sent an email to the manufacturer last week but have not gotten a response yet on some of the questions posted here.

Are you working with Martin @ Girodisc, or is this "Top Secret" until production is finalized?

This is from the manufacturer of the rotors:

"We have some of the first units we sold
back in the lab and measured them at exactly the same thickness after
12k miles of hard use. . The cold bite
is equal to iron, but I know typical carbon ceramic rotors have even
more initial bite than iron. It would stand to reason if the rotors
don't wear, dust would be entirely pad dependent. Noise could be an
unknown, but I'm not worried about it. Ferrari carbon-ceramic brakes
are very quiet, Porsche too. McLaren SLR brakes are known as howlers so
go figure..."

Looks like we are going to run a test set. I am going to front some money to see if they will work.
