Just wondering if the part #s are the same for the gears?

^bingo! I was going to order evo 3 gears for my tranny build since those seem to be the strongest mitsu gears, but just came across a evo 2 tranny for less than the cost of the gears. The ratios are the same. Just need to know if the part #s are.

Which part numbers are you referrring to? Be a bit more specific.

As for the ratio's, yes they are the same between evo 2 and 3 boxes. But there are differences. The final ratio, and transfer case run at different ratios. Its only minor, but there is a difference.

Some of the e2/3 box's came factory fitted with mechanical or viscous front diffs also. It was a factory option.

I was asking because there were lots of changes internally between the 1-3 boxes. The evo 3 box has double syncros on 3/4 gears, evo1 does not. So those gears would not have same part number. The evo 2 may or may not have the syncro upgrade. LSD front was an option on all years. There are many changes, cant go through them all. Would suck to give up your e3 with LSD for e2 without if that where the case. If you could post the numbers on the boxes you have I could tell you more.

Also of important note. The boxes that came with LSD had a special extra long CV. If you dont have that special CV you will not find one in the states. And good luck finding someone overseas to help you. They will not sell that axle without the box.

Both EVO 2/3 boxes have double synchro 3rd/4th, hope that clears that up.

As for LSD options. Only the Evo 2/3 had the mechanical front LSD option. All EVO 1/2/3 had the viscous option.

Also only the viscous lsd front diff required the different length inner cv shaft.

I literally deleted my jap mmc caps version yesterday. As far as I know, the gears are the same part number but verifiy it with jdm caps.

http://www.dsm-club.org/forum/faily/...p-general.html
"mmc caps jap (5 дисков) автомобили выпущенные для японии
все 5 (пять) дисков с оболочкой 3.50 (jap) на английском языке НО запчасти и иллюстрации on JAP
скачать файл 600 Mb"

FWIW I have an evo2 box in my 1991 Talon AWD.
The e2/e3 got the steel forks, double syncro's on 2/3/4, and should be internally identical.

The tranny # is w5m33-2-wpwe. I was told it has a lsd and the correct axle is also included. I am looking for 1st,3rd,4th and 5th gear parts #'s so i can compare.

Thanx again guys! Juan

That's an Evo2 box with LSD. Change out the front diff (no lsd though) and you're good to go.

Download that Japanese CAPS I put up a few posts back and check the numbers.

If you've never used CAPS before it's a bit tricky, you have to go into the setup menu and point CAPS to reference the proper folder(s).

If you don't change the diff, how will you use the transmission? Different final drive ratio.
