installing bigturbo and driving untuned

Im going to be putting on my 57trim kit on my evo which ismy dd, is it safe to install the turbo kit on the car and driveit untuned as long as you dont hit boost?

it would be for about 5 days..... I just need to be able to go 25 mile round trip to work and not have to go more than 45mph..

If not i will have to try and get someone to give me a baseline figures for ecuflash..

u should be fine as long as u didnt change the injectors. if u did change the injectors i would highly suggest not driving it at all.

as long as u stay out of boost u should be perfectly fine

It will even be fine with the same boost level you were running before. It will just be rich in the lower rpm range.

That would scare me a little. There no way for you to have at least a cripple map installed?

We are in the same boat. Im installing my HTA35R but I need to drive 6hrs to get it tuned. I know it would be ok to drive it as long as you stay out of boost with your stock injectors but I am not sure about the avg/max speed?....

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

23psi on a stocker is not equal to 23 psi on a 57trim. that is a quick way to blow your engine

as long as you dont boost you should be fine driving around

Yes the bigger turbo will flow more air at the same psi. It will go lean. Just stay out of boost.

PM me if you need a base map. If you don't boost it may be ok, but there are certain times hitting boost (or loading the engine). For example going up a hill in a high gear.

That's the key..is leaving the stock injectors in place. That and making sure there are no vacuum leaks you will have no problems whatsoever driving it as a N/A lancer wherever you have to go. After bolting on my big turbo kit last thursday I had to wait until sunday to make the 4 hour drive to Dallas for a tune...and nevertheless the Evo's ecu didn't fail me Only difference I would mention would be if you go from the stock rubber intake pipe to a steel one with the kit...that gave me a slight rough idle..but a very driveable one. Our Evo's are versatile beasts

oh yea as far as speed...I was (without boosting) cruising at 90-100mph on the way up there and the Evo felt at home there.
