Never said it was rocket science, but to do it right (the first time) doesn't normally happen on someones first manifold or 2nd or 3rd.... I have been porting for over 2 decades ... longer than some have been alive on here. Nor did I learn on my own. I have had manifolds and hotsides and cyl. heads come in that look like a rabid beaver attacked them. I have seen exhaust manifolds where people gasket matched it on the head side...far from what it should have been done. I have seen intake manifolds where they put a large radius on the outlet of the runners to match the gasket...again, horrible idea. I had a cyl. head that a guy tried to gasket match the exhaust ports while it was on his car and again just radius the ports to match the gasket...scary stuff.

Well I have not seen a difference power wise between a manifold ported to match the gasket and one ported to match the head. As I stated in another thread, for those DIY type it is more cost efficient to port it to the gasket. For a company having your own flange allows you to port it to the head and is less work. It is by far the best choice. The hackjobs you are talking about doesn't seem too bad to me since most people that try to gasket match the manifolds anyways don't have the right tools and never get that far to really screw it up.

You and I are on the same boat here defending a ported manifold. Can you support our side with any tests? Dyno sheets?
